Just finished fitting a stage 1 MV shift kit. Never will I do it again after the mess it made!

Car dosn't drive like a I expected. The gear changes are harder but not hard enough to chirp while changing and I've got the "kick down" cable adjusted for maximum effect.

Is this normal?

It may also be worth resetting the ecu to get the engine working a little better.

I'm not sure the stage 1 will chirp the wheels anyway. Someone who actually has one will confirm this, though.

Also, if you have really good tyres makes it less likely to chirp.

I will confirm I got stage 1 in mine and it chirps 1-2 and sometimes 2-3 i have had it step from 3 - OD...

Mine when installed was shifting way to hard, but had a bolt shear off so i took it my mechanic and he also adjusted something as it's alot nicer now but still shifts hard.

If you want a video let me know I can email it to you.

Your tyres also have alot to do with it... I have expensive tyres on the ass and yet they are as they chirp doing 60km/h at half stick :S

Mine will not chirp as I use TRAC all the time. The TRAC does come on once in a while though.

I have the opposite problem with mine I think mine shifts way too hard you can really feel the clunk as it goes into each gear, kind of regret it for that, the faster changes are good though

I know I have seen this posted before but can you explain where this cable is and how to adjust it?

Stephen - under the black cover on top of the throttle body, you will see 3 cables.
One is the throttle cable, one is the cruise throttle cable, and the other (just in front of the throttle cable) is the line pressure cable.

Just adjust the bolt position in the holder so with the throttle closed, the cable is longer.
You will probably work it out when you see it.

find the throttle cable - there'll be one next to it, thats cruise control, and then there's a third thats under the two, thats the cable you want. adjusting it in (ie screwing the nut towards the firewall) will soften the changes.

Mark, the video would be good.

Thanks.

I've reset the ecu but it was raining so I didn't want to give it full stick. The back end was flicking out in the wet. Just need it to happen in the dry!

I'm getting a sort of squeeling noise (almost like a BOV) at WOT but it sound like it's coming from the gear box. Might be a slipping box which would explain the lack of chirp in the dry.

Guys,

Just reset the ECU and did the Diagnostic port track day setting. Seem to be able to chirp 1st to 2nd in the dry now.

Will put a timing gun on the car on the weekend to see what this fabled track day setting actually does.

That's good Anish :-) how is the harshness of it though??

Most people that I have spoken to it was really harsh to start with, as people adjust the kick down cable i believe to try and elimate the good ol' laggy gear change...

The shift isn't as harsh as I thought it would be. I've adjusted the kickdown for maximum effect so I can't get anymore out of it without going to a stage 1.5 or stage 2 kit.

It's a little more harsh that my bog standard VP commodore I had before when I kicked it in the guts.

Be careful, the 1995 gearbox has some crazy linkage setup, not like 1991-1994 models. Check that the kit is for 95+ model boxes.
