Hi all, I have been searching for a bit and found what I think may be similar issues, but I am not 100% sure.

Anyhow, my car shifts hard between 1st and second. It does this on both the up and down shift. You can feel it through the car. I have had the rear transmission mount replaced and new transmission oil has been put in. This has reduced the problem, but not got rid of it. Once the car has warmed up, everything smooths out.

Any ideas on what this can be?

Much thanks,
Mike

Have you tried playing with the line pressure cable adjustment? Tighter gives you harder shifts, looser gives you smoother shifts. Too loose roots your gearbox.

No idea, the receipt doesn't say. Cost $9.98 for auto trans fluid. Nothing is said about a flush, or anything else.

Nope, but wouldn't that affect all gear changes and not just first and second change?

What is done for an auto service? Would that possibly rectify this? Probably wouldn't hurt to get done, but I would like to fix the real cause of the issue, rather than spend hundreds chasing a phantom.

Thanks,
Mike

Auto service generally involves changing the fluid, some workshops use a power flush machine while others let the transmission pump do the work.

The line pressure cable does affect all gear changes but I only notice it from 1st to 2nd on mine, I have that cable tightened up as far as she will go and it is harsher while the car is cold and driving at low speed/low rpm.

$9.95 for transmission fluid is very cheap. Your should be using Toyota transmission fluid which is around $50 for 4 litres. Do you have a shift kit?

No problem Mike, there are several threads on here about it, just do a search. Just be careful not to loosen it off too much that it starts slipping the clutchpacks.

I agree with 9.95 being very cheap on ATF, people here have had good results from switching to T-IV ATF. I shall be doing this to mine next week as I have Dex3 in at the moment and it is not red anymore haha.

$9.95, Well Definitely cant be Toyota T-IV, which is what you should run in your V8 Transmission. There have been countless reports of people who've had rough shifts with anything other than T-IV.

Get it flushed out and have Toyota T-IV put in there, which is what is recommended by Toyota for your transmission.

Thanks guys.

Sebastian, no shift kit. The car is stock. All I have done is made a start on the BFI.

Cheers,
Mike

Hey guys, I have the opposite problem. Car shifts well well everything is cold, but will SLAM into 2nd gear when things are hot (80 degrees). It normally never gets to this temperature though, unless im start-stop driving in heavy traffic. Anyone experienced this before? Possibly gearbox temp sensor related?
