Hi,
I recently started having a problem with my transmission when the car is cold. I would start it up and when I select drive it just revs out freely for a couple of seconds (if I hit the accelerator) and then it will engage to drive and take off... when I slow down and take off again, if I put my foot down to (at least) half way it would start slipping again... this sometimes happens when I go to reverse, for instance reversing out of the driveway... It feels like its not selecting the gear, and it only does it when its cold (give it about 10 minutes and it will be fine). Oil level looks ok, so what could it be?
Thanks, Leigh.
Edit - I should also mention that my O/D light on the dash hasn't been working for over half a year now, but O/D still kicked in when I press the button... This doesn't seem to be the cause of my problem because the slipping has only start recently, about 2 weeks ago...

Some oil drains from the converter to the sump while the car is standing over night if the strainer/filter is blocked a little it takes a while to fill the converter again ,ones full and with warm thinner fluid it would be OK.Try Scotts top up first as it could be low.

Thanks guys, much appreciated! I just picked some Type IV up from Toyota Northbridge so I'll top it up when I get home from work and let ya know how it goes!
Thanks again.

Hey guys,
I checked the oil level when I got home with the car on, and surprisingly it was at the very bottom of the dip stick... So I topped it up with about 1L of oil and it seems to be running fine now!
I'll check in a few days what the level is like when it has run down from the side of where the dip stick is (so I can get a more accurate figure).
