Hi all.
My V8 auto has a shudder problem when i reach 105kmph and especially so when lifting off the throttle at this speed. This shudder is very slight from 85km upwards to 105kmph.Then kicks in big time with the shifter knob vibrating wildly!! (no comments please!!)
I have checked the level and seems ok and added the "anti stick" stuff as recommended by a local tranny specialist as can sometimes "lock" internally(?).
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Sorry forgot to add tranny specialist thought this was the torque converter sticking on- a common problem he believes. Level and condition of oil ok. Would turning the overdrive off for a while make a difference and unlock this as a guess?

The torque converter locks in both 3rd and O/D, but it usually unlocks briefly if you use the switch.

Maybe have a look at the harmonic balancer as well.

check the rear driveshaft coupling, this is rubber and over time degrades and tears, once these let go you will get driveline vibration.

From what I've heard, the shudder can be fixed by flushing the gearbox and using Dextron IV fluid instead of Dextron II. My V8 had that issue, and the flush completely sorted it out. It was quite bad when I got it, and since I got it flushed it hasn't returned.

Converter shudder ,its quite common on lots of autos, feels like you have run over a cattle grid,Nicks right once the converter has been flushed it goes away.
