Hi All,

Going to do a flush of my ATF. just going to dump sump and re-fill a few times, not going to clean filter or undo cooler lines. just dump replace and drive a bit method.

I looked at dipstick and it has DEXRON II written on it.. Everyone seems to say go with Toyota-T-IV, can i just get a dexron 2 or 3 equivalent, any recommendations?

Current oil looks quite bad dont think its been changed in a long time and I'm not sure what oil is in there at moment, but dirty as and doesn't look red at all.

umm Im pretty sure it says Dex III not II
Basically TT's are supposed to use Dex 3 BUT
most people are putting in Type IV (v8 recommnded) (me included)
because of the age of the box they can shudder with Dex 3.

But of course this has been answered about 100 times already. You should learn to use the Search function. its really good.

Ibo, all you will do is mix good oil with old oil just a waste of money!! you really need to remove a cooler pipe and flush it .

Removing sump is going to take more effort than undoing the cooler lines, for no real gain... and if you do you might aswell clean filter.

Hi All,

Ended up buying 8 litres of T-IV from toyota. Yes i was going to drain sump not remove. I dont really want a mechanic doing it so im just going to use this method of changing a bit and driving. When you do the cooler flush, you still dont remove 100% of the oil anyway??

Bugger all is held in the sump though - less than 25%.

Ibo, if you do a flush it will remove 100% of the old burnt oil , its not hard to do T-IV is not cheap anymore shame to mix it with old oil.

Hi all. Jacob yes that's awsome link I have decided to flush. Just a question. Which hose do I remove? Passenger side? And do I need a bottle at radiator nipple and hose from trans?

you will need a big bowl (5 lts at least) push a plastic pipe(this way you can see when the colour changes from black to red) over the outlet pipe and fix it in bowl with a clip , as it will come out fast when you start engine and tends to jump out.

Dave, I read on other thread that the front pipe is inlet to gearbox and rear is outlet. So the green line you have highlighted is the inlet line to gearbox, hence I put clear pipe onto the radiator fitting side, I.e. The passenger side radiator fitting. That's what it looks like in the link on chaser site as well. I assume what you have circled is the radiator fitting. Please confirm}

Ibo undo the marked pipe from rad push a clear plastic pipe over the pipe end and into a bucket.
while you still have the sump plug out push a pipe on the rad side and blow this will empty the cooler and line back to the box, refit sump plug and your ready to fill up and start to flush.
on about the 4th flush you will see the fluid turn red in the clear pipe (all the old oil is now out )
