Cant answer teh first question but as far as the short shifter goes just drive it stock for a week or two and see what you think, short shifters are easy to install but it all comes down to personal preference - while they make gear changes more precise they also require more force
Also bear in mind that if you have an R154/W58 with teh dogleg shifter a short shifter will not have this and so the rubber boots wont fit very well

a shifter is all just about preference. if you just cruise around and want the easier gear changes then just stick to the normal shifter. if you plan on doing some aggressive starts and want the faster and more precise gear changes, get a short shifter.

so far, my switches are in the cupholder spot, loose. You have to custom make somewhere to put them, cut a hole out somewhere otherwise keep them loose.
R154 is pretty long, would prefer a short shifter but they arent cheap.

most common is for the switches to be moved into the ashtray.
That's where mine are, and the wires are long enough too.
I got a short shifter off eBay, I had issues with it in the end (R154 into a W58 though). Around the $100 mark from memory. TRD ones are about $350 ish I think. Not sure if these have been discontinued though.

WOW Paul! That looks so good! Hmm I might do that I wonder if it was easy to do.
Looks like I should be getting a short shifter then hey? I've seen a few on ebay but don't know what difference is in regards to the price. Care to shed some light?

Yeah the short shift makes all the difference , and spend the money and get a decent one , you get` what you pay for these days, better to do it right once , than wrong a couple of times. always ends up cheaper to do it right the first time.
You will loose your Cigarette lighter socket , relocate it to somewhere else if you need it. We have working Sat-Nav in the EMV , so don't really need 12v , would be handy for charging phones, but don't really miss it.

Sorry James ??? came with the Car , But by the look of it it looks like it's all a MOMO once piece kind of thing.
Ken you could put it wherever you like really , just so long as the wiring will extend to the new location otherwise you'll have to splice longer wiring for it.
