hey all, wondering if you guys may be able to shed some light on this!

basically - car in question is our old 1992 TT soarer,
it's my parents' car.. they went to europe for a minute and battery went dead, dad charged the battery and away they went, once the car was warm.. OD OFF light started flashing ..

like:
on solid for one second
off solid for three - no breaks no alterations nothing..

took soarer to Joe @ DCI who plugged in diagnostics.. it threw out code 63.. joe replaced two solenoids that were blown in the autotrans.. problem solved!!!

but no - straight away it's still doing it and it's still throwing out code 63..

HELP!!!!
more clues include:..
1) transmission is very "jolty" when going from 1st to 2nd - not smooth and refined - it's just very twitchy.

2) code 63!

3) solenoids are replaced and up to date

4) i beleive trans fluid has been recently replaced..

helppppppP!!!!!!!

Reset ECU, try to recreate error codes.
Do a full trans flush.

Actaully, the trans flush as you said it had already been done.

Code 63 is a malfunctioning No.2 solenoid.
If the solenoid is fine, check the harness and connectors for open or short circuits.

Also check for grounding, as the solenoid grounds itself off the valve body case.

cheers austen, i'll have a look in the morning.. this has been SO annoying!!!

i'll also find out exactly what these two fuses are so i don't look at the wrong fuses haha

also - if this helps diagnose.. the car won't shift into overdrive.. like.. at all.

okay checked fuses. they all seem fine.

Checked trans fluid. It hasn't been changed and doesn't look too good on the dip stick. Looks clear / brown instead of red.

Which narrows it down to a broken circuit. Where are these harnesses and connectors located? i'll have a check of them.

I know I should change trans fluid but surely JUST the fluid wouldn't be causing it to:

flash OD OFF

snap from first to second

lose overdrive completely

throw out code 63

i've personally always thought it'd be a plug or connector thats loose but I have no idea where these are..

suggestions??? :-)

A friends celsior had DXIII in it instead of TTIV and it had huge problems changing gears and stuff. It was in the car for about 8 months and it was his main car which drove several hundred km's per day (over 60 00kms on this fluid). We dropped it and it came out brown/black and smelled like burnt.

Put TTIV in it and it got fully smooth transitions and overdrive back.

True story. Not your problem though - just thought i'd mention it during a thread about transmissions..

Connectors are on the gearbox, from memory, 3 at the back, one on the passenger side, and one on the driver side.

The harness comes up near the trans dipstick.
