My 91 TT has decided not to change out of 2nd gear properly. It holds onto 2nd all the way up to 5-6000 rpm until it wants to change into 3rd unless i back off accel, then it will change into 3rd. It seems fine in every other gear the only problem going from 2nd to 3rd.

It's at the mech's and it isnt showing any codes, they said they havent seen this issue on one before(apparently have done work on numerous soarers before). They've swapped ecu, tps, and numerous other parts over and still no luck. Now checking wiring.

The box was serviced early this year, this problem has only just bobbed up. Drove it, parked it, half an hour later drove it again and it wouldnt shift out of 2nd. Doesnt matter how hard I drive it, I get the same result. You could be driving miss daisy and it still wont shift.

Any ideas? Car is stock

yeah mines doin the same thing.
But i know its the shift solenoid in the gear box.
Im going to rip the valve body out at the same time and intall a shift kit.

Id say its the shift solenoid mate.
There is 2 on the JZZ30's get two new ones and you'll be right.

well i took it down to a transmission place, the guy there told me quite confidently, "its not a solenoid, the TPS needs adjusting" so hopefully he's right, though, im not too convinced he is.

Its still not showing any codes other than "everything's fine" which is starting to really me

yeah its now got a brand new tps on there so we could rule it out. I'm guessing the mech knew what he was doing when he put it on there.

I'm going to call a few other Trans shops and see what they say. Im not confident taking this guy's word that it's the tps, I told him it was only just changed but he's still positive thats the problem

Yeah gear shifting is taken care of, by a combination of TPS, ECU control, And speedo sensor.

The ECU tells gearbox to change gear.

But at the end of the day its the shift solenoids which changes the gears...

disconnect the trans loom (connector near the trans dipstick from memory) preferably get a plug to suit from someone wrecking a car run the wires inside and then try applying power to the solenoid directly.

If it changes when you apply power you rule out a mechanical issue with the box or confirm it.

Gearbox is slipping and/or f.ucked and on the way out. They love to slip 2nd or 1st before they die.

Thanks for the not so good news Costa. But yeah I think that's the conclusion we're coming too.
