Yup. Some redline will make for smoother gear changes.

Sorry Justin, manual and automatics use quite different oil specifications. The Redline will not work properly in an automatic transmission.

yeah - i've got a w58 (now that i've just about finished the manual conversion) - which oil is best for it? redline MTL, MT90, or lightweight shockproof?? also, how much does the box need to fill it? i've read 1.8L for the r154 box, what about the w58??

Now you've got me wondering if I am filling it right. I put the original 3.9 odd litres in the box and it did not flow out the filler and have just added another litre and still nothing comes out????
I remember reading that the R154 was about 3.5 to 4 litres which is why I was not too worried about the first fill not flowing out the hole.

While I'm on a roll, Shane I drove the car for 18 months with the shockproof in it and it was always a little clunky in the changes unless I thrashed it then it got really smooth for a while?? It was never hard to change but noticeably smoother after letting the car have it's head for couple of changes. Don't know if this is a characteristic of the oil or an indication it needed more in the box??

I think i pumped 3.5 L in my R154 before it started to spill out of the overflow hole.

It is important to have the car dead level when filling the cars vitals. Obviously.
