What's the likely cause(s) of the gearstick shaking (rocking backwards and forwards) on an automatic Soarer (V8) under braking?

Engine and transmission mounts have been recently replaced, as were front LCA bushes. All work was done at a reputable Soarer-specialist in Sydney.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I've driven two other Soarers, neither of which seemed to do this. The movement is only a few millimeters but enough to be a visual distraction.

Surely Lexus/Toyota didn't design it to do this?

I had exactly the same thing, thought it was the rear discs as it felt like it was coming from the rear, took it in to have them checked and turned out to be the front discs, quick machine and all fixed

Same issue as Nik. I changed my engine mounts & gearbox mount and it still shook. Upgraded to new Supra Four pot brakes & rotors, no more shudder.

I would have thought it would be the mounts.

But also could be the brakes/suspension bushes being worn, under braking some play can be amplified, creating a shimmy which could vibrate the car at the right frequency to effect the gear shifter.

A solution could be to address any of the major bushes links and also brakes, but it's pretty easy to tell if they are warped.

Mike that's what I thought at first but I have all brand new bushes, coilovers, and supra brakes with 18 month old DBA 4000 series discs, must have managed to get a hot spot on the front discs and caused a slight warp, only required a very light machine, but the pulse/shudder that caused the shifter to rock back and forth was bloody annoying, I spent ages checking the rear end cause I was sure that was where it was coming from.
