hey guys just a quick question, i've been meaning to have my transmission flushed for a while now, i might possibly have a stage 2 shift kit installed some time this month, just wondering if installing a shift kit involves draining the fluid thats already there? sorry about the noobish question lol just wanted to make sure how this works before i go ahead with anything, theres no point spending a few hundred having the trasmission flushed if that new oil is going to be drained out in few days when i drive in for my shift kit,

Yes, you'll have to drain it before you put the shiftkit in

But you can catch it and re-use it if its new fluid.

and choose your workshop carefully.. if your installing the shift kit yourself and then getting a workshop to drain and flush, anymore then an hours labour + workshop supplies is a rip, it doesn't take 3 hours to drain and flush.. it might take that long drive in to drive out... but workshops can only charge on the job time... alot of people get ripped that way so please keep an eye on job cards/recipts.

Mario;
with a stage 2 shift kit be prepared to change the oil on a regular basis.
the stage 2 is very hard on all the internals of the box and will cause the oil to obtain a lot of un wanted particals in it from the components in side the box

Lew,What is the difference between stage 2 and stage 3 or 1 for that matter?
Is it the difference in the shim(?) sizes? 6mm, 8mm?

if stage 2 is really bad for your tranny, should stage 3 like destroy it?

there is no stage 3, well at least not from MV automatics. I had a stage 2, which very few people ever got. it had the accumulating springs REMOVED and REPLACED BY COPPER TUBE!!!! this was instant thump whenever a gear change occurred, or even at idle if you selected reverse. after 4 years of driving and lots of drag racing, my torsen diff finally cried enough. I have since gone to a stage 1.5, which has superceded the stage 2. the stage 2 is no longer available, or required, as the new stage 1.5 matches it in performance, but is much more pleasant under light to medium throttle.
I suggest getting a stage 1, or if you drag race the car, get a stage 1.5.

ive been searching but i havent found an answer

with the shift kit installed, does it make the trans wear out more quickly, does it have any long term effects?

thanks

If anything it makes the trans last longer, no slippage between gears etc..

Yep, the stresses will be transferred to other components of your drivetrain.

Ive had a shift kit for over 4 years , over 200 passes at the track and over 70,000km's of use without breaking any diffs or driveline components .

1 of the best bang for buck mods on a soarer for sure .

Just keep the fluid flushes up to date and she'll be right . Not to mention a bit more

I have the stage 1 , its plenty enough .

My gearbox seems to be more attentive when kicking back . Cant remember what it was like before though , been a while .

However when i drove a friends soarer without a shift kit , i felt so sad for it , popping and farting and taking so long to change gears , ehehe .
