Alright,

So, I got my Pro Ratchet here, I've got it set to lock out REVERSE, although quite clearly I could make it lock out NEUTRAL just as easily by removing the 4 speed option pin.

My main questions are:

1.Does getting into PARK require two gates worth of movement (two forward movements of the stick), or does it require only one. If it requires only one, then I will use the spare pin provided to block out the second park notch

2. How hard is this bloody thing to install; looking in the cavity where the shifter and centre console cover used to be, it seems like theres a whole heap of that needs to be removed: what exactly needs removal?

I bought a set of linkages from MV Autos to hook it up with: Where do these go?

Hehe, fire away at noob question time :-)_

Alright, well with a bit of time, I have this crap figured out.

1. Park needs only one movement of the gate to achieve.

2. The cable mount and selector lever are pretty much 'as you go' fitment: once you get under the car and have a look it's self explanatory. Nice kit.

When I bought this box, I asked Mike to manualise it and hook up the required shift box and deliver it to me, which he did.

Now, in regards to the arrival of the gearbox, it came with the shift box wired in to the plugs/wires that come from the tailshaft end (solenoids im guessing) and the converter end, near the selctor lever (gear postition im guessing)

The only 'loose' wires provided are a red (+12v?) a yellow (igntion 12+?) and a black (ground?)

Now, as I am using the pro ratchet, plus a totally custom dash (no use of the PRND21 shifter surround or the factgory instrument cluster for transmission data) i figure I dont need to hook up any of the jzz30 chassis' wiring looms/plugs, as the B&M has it's own neutral and park safety switches (which im guessing can be spliced into the shift boxs loom) therefore I don;t need to worry about any of the chassis witring right?

I mean, im not wanting any gear position or dash control readouts etc.....trying to keep the A340E as independant of the 'soarer' as possible.

Thoughts?

Man, having had the soarer away from home for so long, I LOVE being under it and checking out how everything works, what a machine!

Aaron, That is correct. I just unpluged the old shifter and everything still seemed to work fine. Reverse lights still come on. It must sense this from the gearbox and also the gear position is still indicated on the dash.

Also one click into park and have it set to 3 speed. It is a reverse lockout.

I custom fabricated some brackets and it bolts into where the standard shifter goes. I made a custom surround out of my old auto one with a dremmil and some fibreglass.

I can see why you used a bracket instead of just drilling it into the trans tunnel: You wouldnt be able to see the PRND stickers and pointer properly. They way im looking at mounting it, I think it will require a teeny bit of removal of the centre console material, as in the big centrer tunnel cover- There a little cross piece that I think will need to be dremeled out.

How high off the tunnel does your shifter sit now with the bracket?Im looking at about 2.5cm of lift to get it look right with the factory soarer surround. Guess I better read up on fibreglassing and grab one of those little kits from bunnings/supercheap and start practicing.

One more thing I noticed too, The MV cable mounting brackets: I have mine mounted on the sump pan bolts, using the B&M supplied spacing shims to get the cable bracket in line with the gear control lever. And with the MV supplied gear lever: It has to be mounted upside down to the factory lever to get the ratchet to function in that way correct?

The pro ratchet was about $370 from Autobarn, inc freight (!) . May I suggest encasing it in dynamat to quieten it down. The MV shift box was about $200 and the 800nm MV box was about $3300 inc freight.

Thanks for the reply Aaron but when no one responded I bought a suprastick instead. Any chance you could post some photos of yours installed?

Oh crap, I just saw the date of your post. The supra stick is awesome. There are some proper 'paddle shift' kits on yahoo jp, that would be great combined with a suprastick too.

Ive got my ratchet mounted without the b&m casing, and have a manual console and shifter boot, so it looks just like a normal manual car.....with no clutch pedal :-(.

Im in the middle of dynamat-ing the whole car, will take a photo of mounting and of console when done.

What are you doing about the linkage brackets? Did they make a kit for a soarer or are you custom fabricating pieces?

Aaron, you're killing me with anticipation haha.

Does anyone know how the torque converter works with a shift kit? Does it just lock up in every gear when you have a manual valve body?

Nice one Aaron, thanks for that. Any idea about how the torque converter works? I can't wait to see some video of this in action.

You look to be on a similar track to where I want to be only I want a 1.5jz with my hks t3gs to keep it looking stock.

The lockup part is annoying, needs a seperate momentary setup, which is fine for drags but ghey for daily. Its only a weekender car for me. I missed the boat on T3g setups, but how nuts would they be on 3.0l's :-)

2010 rx350 wheel Ali, woodgrain matches our cars 95% IMO . $450 landed with airbag intact. And this AV guys make a plug/loom to match certain head units for steering wheel control!!
