Hey Guys
Need some help with a repeated problem, will do my best to explain here.
I have had a Exedy Sports Tuff clutch fitted to my soarer, had the flywheel machined, new thrust bearing and everything was done right according to the guy who did the job.
When all put back together and job was finished.. Put my foot on the clutch with the motor running and can feel like a bad vibration and shuddering through the clutch pedal and was making all sorts of noises, also between gear changes a very bad harsh vibration is felt in the clutch pedal and throughout the gear stick, and did not feel right at all..
Few days later was driving the car and suddenly the clutch pedal fell to the floor! and left me stranded and had to tow the car home..
Turned out a part called the "thrust bearing carrier" had snapped, the end of it had broken into the thrust bearing.
So I order a new "thrust bearing carrier" from toyota, and had to take the whole gearbox out again! Had the part fitted, put it all back together, to find it was doing exactly the same thing, the vibration and everything!.
So was driving the car and exactly the same thing has happen'd again where the clutch pedal fell to the floor.
Has anyone here had this problem before?
Or can anyone tell me what they think this could be?

I am guessing you are running a R154 box? Also what sort of power are you putting out?
What I can gather is that you are running a R154 and are producing a bit of power.
What you need is a new washer and bearing kit. With the washer you will need a stronger aftermarket washer and not a factory one as they can't handle anything over 300rwhp.
I have just brought a remote shift R154 for my UZZ31 and I plan on doing things once and the right way so I will be stripping the box down to inspect the internals and replace that washer, not because I will be running over 300rwhp but because of the abuse it will be getting and if I decide to go down the forced induction route I know that the box will be able to handle it.

The car has a factory r154 gearbox and its pretty much stock with a bit of boost and few other things. It had the factory clutch before and this problem never happend and was Driving around heaps with no problems. It was changed as it started to slip because it was wearing out. After that this problem has started.

i would be checking the clutch and the flywheel because if the flywheel is warped you will get a big shudder which will put a heap of excess strain on the carrier, bearing and clutch itself. p.s how much did it cost you to get the thrust bearing done as mine is starting to make some noise and is due.

The Flywheel was machined the first time and it was perfectly fine. But it does make sense what your saying. We think the fault might be in the clutch itself, so we are getting it sent away to Exedy this week, we may get a new clutch out of it free of charge as it was not out fault at all, we pulled it all apart tonight and the carrier had been broken again..
Adrian, I Paid the guy a bit of cash on the side to do the whole job. But to change the Thrust bearing you have to get the whole gearbox out and everything, so I would say the average shop would charge around $400 to do it.

Never heard of a carrier breaking dude, even with a 3500lbs pressure plate that I get custom made for my high powered cars. Got any pics?
I've always hated Extreme and Excedy cluches. They are and overpriced and never perform. Unless you have a rooted thrust bearing or the carrier was not installed properly, it would be the pressure plate.
Average labor cost for a clutch job gearbox in/out is $400.

Costa the end of the carrier is getting sheared off right at the end and the carrier ends up getting stuck to the input shaft that is connected to the gearbox, basically the end of the carrier is breaking off, its like literally 2-3mm of metal. I will try posting a picture of it. But we may have found the problem as we noticed the shim washer wasnt lined up properly and was moving around between the inside and outside of the fins in the clutch that hold the bearing. So we got a new shim washer made up.. Anyone had this problem before???
