Hi guys I am having some issues with my transmission and am wanting some advice on the best thing to do.

When I start the car up and it's cold it takes anywhere from 1 minute to sometimes 5 to select any gears. I put in in drive and it just sits there. once it is warmed up it is fine I can park it and get back in up to an hour later and it just clicks straight into gear.

I have spoken to one transmission store and without looking at it they tell me that from what I'm saying the seals are hardening and I will need a rebuild which is about $2000 or just get a secondhand box and put that in it.

I am wondering if it is worth spending the money on the transmission rebuild so it will be like a brand new box and work well for a long time or If I'm better off just buying a secondhand one off here and putting that in.

My only concern with a secondhand box is that the same thing will just happen again in another 6 months or so.

Has anyone had this issue with their auto before? Is it a common problem?

Have you done the obvious and checked your fluid level ?

Drop the pan, check and clean filter screen.

How long since it has had a full flush.
