I've got a Kewish Autos stage 1.5 shift kit installed in my TT and it works great, although, it gets REALLY hot.

Even on cold nights, when I just cruise along for long periods of time, everything around my gear shifter and the trans tunnels are BURNING hot.

Is something wrong, do you guys think a tranny cooler would solve this? Or is it something else I'm not getting.

You installed a 1.5 kit without a cooler? Naughty naughty... I thought they were (almost) mandatory when upgrading the box. Hell, I had one on my auto even before shift kitting it.

A cooler is mandatory with NO mods let alone a 1.5 shift kit.

Thanks for the replies, it's on my list of things to do, the shift kit went in 10,000k's ago and I've noticed it's been getting hotter and hotter.

I am a bit shocked though, even when cruising on a 1degree night, the thing still gets red hot. Let alone on a 35degree day :-(

Thanks again.

i would install a cooler no matter what.

secondly i think the heat has a lot to do with the upgraded exhaust that passes beside the auto box.from the factory i beleive the std tt exhaust is heatshielded.maybe wrapping that part of the piping might help reduce temps in that area.
i have allways thaught about this as the exhaust pipe side seems hotter than the passeneger side..
time for some temp testing i think.have to get my "probe" around that area..:-)

Everyone knows that a cooler is going to help in all situations but AFAIK having a shift kit just increases the shift time and in that time there is less heat build up. So I would have thought theoretically that having a shift kit should help with the clutch's not getting as hot as a long slow shift.

Doesn't really matter either way as I already have 2 coolers :P

The shift kit on its' own shouldn't increase heat at all. A high stall torque converter will though.Trans cooler is cheap insurance in all cases.
