G'day guys i recently bought a 1991 TT Soarer. And the automatic is a bit stuffy.
When i put the car in reverse, as all automatics do, they start moving slowly. When i try to accelerate the car just rev's and there is no acceleration. The car still moves slowly but if im parked then i need to get out and push.
Also when i start off in drive it sometimes thinks to go into third gear and i have a very slow take off so i have to go down into 2nd.
anyone know what the problem is? i have no idea since this is my first auto.

When we had the soarer auto box put into the 1jz 260zed, we had to flush the transmission because it wasn't getting deep enough into the auto box, it took a while but once it was fully saturated in where it was supposed to be, we sorted it out.
I think i even posted a thread here about it too, but turned out just to be user error.

Calum, first check level on dip stick ,engine warm and running in park. If its very black it could be clutch pack worn out ,if it s not to bad and smells burned ,give it a flush etc as Matt says,.

i'm with Matt- i think it is most likely that part of the trans is stuffed. Please post a close up picture of your throttle body, i would like to speculate that the line pressure/ kickdown cable from the trans to the throttle body is slack.
