I have recently had my car fixed after a dodgy mechanic jump started the car and fried fuses, the car sat for 6 months waiting for the repairs to go through court.. Now the car starts in 2nd gear, It doesn't seem to change gears automatically at all now, manually I can put the car in 1st and second. My mechanic believes it may be bad fuel/blocked filter. I personally think it's a gearbox issue...any help would be appreciated.

Your ecu may be in limp mode, try disconnecting the battery for half an hour then connect again and see if that has reset itself!
If thing's stay the same then it's something else.
I had the same thing happen to mine when i put my turbo's back in and forgot to connect the oxy sensor. the car was starting in 2nd gear and just running crap, but i still could select 1st manually.

Thanks, the fluid needs a change, smells burnt and looks bad. I will reset the ecu today, and hopefully that works. Trying to track down a filter so I can flush the transmission fluid. The car doesn't seem to have any other problems so I'm hoping it's not the ecu!! Living in a smallish town makes it hard to borrow an ecu, I think there's 4 soarers in town. Again thank you very much will let you know how I go this afternoon.
