Hi,

Can anyone please suggest a good Transmission Service in Sydney? Also when you do the Trans service, what do they do besides replace the Trans fluid? Is there anything need to adjust?

Many Thanks!

You can drop the sump and replace the strainer at the same time too, but when I replaced mine the old one actually looked fine and would probably have kept going with just a clean.

Found out there is no filter changed in a trans service, is the strainer something that is not often changed? Its over $100 to get one, is it necessary? Just get the 12 litres of ATF?

Just the Fluid, It's going to cost roughly $300 for the 12L of Toyota Type 4 ATF That the V8 Needs.

Nulon and Penrite make a suitable substitute for Toyota Type 4, Both fully synthetic, although its not that much cheaper.

And you can't use Dexron or any other fluid in the V8.

Hi Guys,

The Strainer never needs changing unless of transmission failure, it has quite a decent surface area to cater for general wear and tear for the life of the trans.

As for the price of T-IV I'll soon be selling this and at Toyota beating prices anybody interested PM/Email me.

Thanks guys.
Nulon is much cheaper than $100 for 4L isn't it?

The Nulon fully synthetic ATF to substitute T-IV is $65 ish for 4 Litres, also Darren, you can use regular Dexron 3 In the TT, only the V8 and Late 96+ VVT-i Soarer's need T-IV.

Just to clarify, you don't NEED to run T-IV. Don't flame the messenger (me!), but the guys from MV automatics in adelaide told me that running T-IV will just result in a smoother shift than DEX 3 due to the additional additives. It won't damage the box by running DEX3.

Again, if you don't agree, don't get up on your high horse and badmouth me. Call MV automatics and discuss it with them

I cannot see the logic in putting in fluid that will make the transmission not function optimally. Regardless of MV Automatics, Just have a read through some threads on here about all the issues that have occurred from not using T-IV.

Rough shifting, Shuddering, Hesitation to shift, Not going into gear properly. Many things and it's not like you change your Transmission fluid often, so why run the risk of having these problems?, and having to change the fluid all over again?

It's simply just part of the cost of maintaining the vehicle properly.

Here's the part Number for T-IV, 08886-81015 (4 ltr.Tin) PM Boris above to get it cheaper

Hi Guys it's like in the same way that you use Genuine Toyota Seals, sure Aftermarket ones CAN be used, but going by Genuine stuff thats proven time after time from factory new car to work, will make the car run the smoothest I reckon our cars deserve it.

I agree, and i purchased T-IV. But it isn't the only option. Its also a good excuse to get a shift kit!

Try the search function and see how many people have had transmission problems with dex 3 and have fixed them by flushing with and then running T-IV.

Just got a price from Toyota, 4L is nowhere near $100, just over half that.
