Hello Everyone,

I am just curious about a manual conversion. Is a W58 better or R154?. Also with regards to a manual conversion, what all do you require to do this conversion?. Some where I have read that a W58 is shorter than a R154 is that right and will this have any impact on the drive?.

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

as Joshua has said the R154 is stronger. as for the length i cant comment for sure but i have a feeling they are the same length. for a manual conversion you will need

flywheel
flywheel bolts (toyota or arp)
clutch and pressure plate
pressure plate bolts
spigot bearing (6201)
clutch fork
slave and master cylinders
clutch lines
clutch pedal assembly
manual break pedal (or cut down your one)
R154 box with 1j/2j bellhousing
shifter
shifter surround
manual tailshaft (or modify your auto one)
R154 gearbox mount
break fluid
gearbox oil
swear jar
band aids
beer

thats all i can think of at the moment but if you get stuck your more than welcome to give me a yell as i have not long ago done mine.

Thanks Josh and Matt for the info. Is the spigot bearing you mentioned with 6201 is that its part number or something?. And also, are all the clutch lines unique to R154 or W58?. how bad is it to modify the auto tailshaft to manual?

Thanks

the 6201 is the bearing size and type so if you roll into a place that supplies bearings ask them for a 6201 bearing and they will know what you want but make sure you get a good quality one suck as NSK, SKF and ect. as for the clutch lines im not sure but i guess they would be close to the same. the tailshaft needs to be lengthened i think by about 50mm there are threads on it here somewhere.
