Your ecu might be in limp mode, if so try disconnecting the battery for a bit and then try it again. This hopefully should reset back to normal! If not then it's something else.

My gearbox was doing similar, but wasnt struggling in 1st. If i had it in drive would take off in 2nd. It was number 1 shift solenoid. got a new one put in for around 300 with a full gearbox service and a test of other solenoids and it runs perfect. If your driving it with overdrive button in does ECT come up on the dash??

Yes I have lost 1st when in drive. Also lost 4th. Will be taking it into the Auto Trans people as I think its the solenoid issue. Its been doing some strange things so will get all that fixed up too and will update.
I been told Rob Grant Automotive is the guy to see.

Hey people - just a side note.
If your car is set to PWR mode (the button near shifter) and you pull up at the lights in "D", the car will always take off in 2nd gear.
The Soarer has a feature - a safety feature of sorts which when the car is in power mode, it will never shift back to first gear.
It will take off in 2nd gear.
This is to stop you flooring it around a corner in 2nd gear, shifting to first, and making you wind up in a tree.
Some Soarer owners claim that their car will go back to first once in power mode - but this suggests they are talking crap, or have a modified/shonky gearbox or ecu. Possibly even a shonky tps.
So - If car is in pwr mode, you will NOT shift to first gear unless doing so manually.

All PWR does is change the shift points at different RPM and Throttle points compared to ECON. It will rev the gears out more before shifting, where as econ will shift up quicker.
ECON is better for low throttle driving, PWR allows you to use more of the engine power in each gear.
