Well my new car had a stuffed first gear synchro and stuffed clutch. So now I'm going to pull it out this weekend to get it repaired intime for or meet! And so they can measure up the clutch and pressure plate due to being a bullet kit and they use different clutches.
Any way I'm swapping boxes over as well.
Can I pull it out from underneath? Or motor out job? I really don't want to pull motor out even though it was easy as in my other car.
What have people done before me? Also its a w58 1uz

hey Dan not sure about removing the gearbox on a converted v8 but i would imagine it would be an under car job. of course you would have to remove the shifter first, the way i got my gear box out in my tt was to loosen the motor mounts and let it rock back to get at the top bellhousing bolts other than that its fairly straight forward. i would offer my help but currently cant lift anything over 10kg so that rules me out but good luck with it

Cheers matt. I'll do it from underneath then. I did plenty of gearboxes from underneath in the Silvia just wasn't 100% on clearence there looks like yheres enough. I got today off so might do it now

The hardest thing was taking the exhaust off! Snapped a stud in the bottom of the manifold grrrr Gearbox was 20mins work lol exhaust was like an hour and a half. I think ill drop it off at the exhaust place and get them to make a new exhaust so I don't have to with it haha
Recommend dropping it from underneath for anyone doing it

Yeah the exhaust sucks on this car. Might change it all together. On another note. Theres a sensor in the top of this box it wasn't plugged In and was put in there I'm going to have to did through conversion threads and sort out all the sensors and wiring to put onto the new box.

Guys I'm putting gearbox back in and I'm confused. There's a sensor plunged in zip ties up above tailshaft? Why is it there? Shortly it wouldn't pick up a signal like that

\Hi Guys just a quick question for all you gurus out there whats quickest take the auto out by its self or take motor and gearbox out as one. Please note no hoist vehicle on stands. Much appreciated for any input. Need to pull it out this weekend.V8 Auto uzz31

not easy without a hoist. On your own or with a mate? Gearbox only, is my opinion. Exhaust off, drive shaft off.Fluid lines. Gear lever linkage. All electrical plugs need undoing. Rubber cover off to undo the bolts that bolt the flex plate to the torque convertor. Trans cross member. starter motor unbolted. then the bell housing bolts. You need LONG socket extensions to reach the top bolts. Trans weighs about 40kg, and torque convertor about 14kg, so very heavy when together with fluids. Be careful. have a friend help. And DON'T leave the key in ignition, for safety reasons.

Thanks guys sounds like a complete motor and gearbox may be the although a longer process. Have A Frame so this might be the way when doing it by ones self. Its being removed from a wreck so absolute care is not an issue.

if your going to rip the motor and gear box out. i've been told its alot easier to pull the loom out of the ECU and pull the plugs through the fire wall rather then try and unclip everything (aka break every plastic clip)
