Hi guys,

Just wondering what sign this might point to, basically whenever you floor it in my TT soarer the transmission from first to second is beautiful and hit's the 7K mark before changing but from 2nd to 3rd it stutters on 6200 - 6300 for like 3 seconds before changing into 3rd. Could this be a sign that my tranny is on it's way out or could a simple flush solve this???

Any advice pls, cheers :-)

Hmm ... That would be around 120 kmh ? I would try a flush and new fluid .

Does it have shift kit ? Could be sticking solenoid maybe ? Or Ecu caps ? Line pressure adjusted ok ?

It's got an MV Automatics 1.5 shift kit. It's getting flushed this weekend, I'll get my soarer mechanic to check it over but yeah it revs it all the way out to 7K when under full throttle then changes usually. Yeah around 120-124 mark I think, just tested it out on the freeway tonight and it was doing that consistently.

Bloody spark plugs had less than 1.1mm gap left on them, replaced them and now no problems :-)

the gap on spark plugs doesn't change- they don't wear. What are you talking about???
sometimes a too bigger gap will cause a misfire- most 1jz owners will run .7 to .8mm gap.

Ngk BKR7eix gapped to 0.75 for me .

Never heard a misfire issue causing a gearshift to be out though ...

Well seems to be working perfectly since changing all of the spark plugs. I also had an oil leak from the gasket which was leaking into the spark plugs which also doesn't help. But problem is solved and gear shifts are perfect once again :-)

Good stuff .

I honestly will never run copper plugs again . Iridiums idle smoother , rev smoother , better economy , and go harder .

I was running 12 mth old iridium plugs at the track a few months ago . It never ran an 11 on less than 17 psi before and I had only 1.7 60's !

Off topic sorry but yeah !

See I'm using NGK BKR7E's what are you using Daniel? I'll give them a shot if they make that much of a difference since I'm getting the car tuned by Cihan in 2 weeks time, so want everything to be perfect :-)

It's not the BKR6EIX I was just looking them up and apparently they suit the 1jz's well.

Bkr7eix . Iridium in 7 heat range .

There is a local ( aus ) eBay seller who advertises the 6 best range but stocks the 7 when you message them :-)

And out of curiousity do you notice the difference straight away and is it drastic? How many KM's do you expect to get out of them?

Yes straight away . Can also see the difference on the boost guage . Driving the same hills uses less vacuum , that's proof .
Feels less laggy too ...

Honestly if they lasted 12 months , I'd be happy ! But they still are going after 14,000km & over 15 mths without any sign of faltering yet :-)

Well I just ordered some from the US via Ebay - $58 all up posted for 6 so will see how they go :-) Reading up on it, apparently they are supposed to last longer but performance wise is marginal, I guess I'll find out for myself like you have Daniel. The fact that they last for double the amount of time is what I like. Hopefully I'll get the same results as you :-)

I have the same problem on my V8, although the problem is between 1st and 2nd. I generally don't drive fast enough to test 2nd-3rd, but the problem definitely wasn't spark plugs. Most of my research has pointed to solenoids.

Rory did you end up swapping your spark plugs over? I had a similar issue a while back where my spark plugs looked perfect but actually had a crack inside of them, not something you would normally notice.
