Hi Guys,

I have error ECT 62. Also have a problem where the car doesn't have nearly as much power. If I put my foot down, the transmission won't downshift and so is pretty sluggish. I can still drive around fine but yeah I need to fix this.

The transmission fluid is fine, and it was flushed about 2 years ago so that will be fine. From reading up on the forum it's probably a solenoid, but not sure which one i would need.

Also do i need any special tools for changing a solenoid over?

I've had such an awesome run for 2 years, a pitty this has just happened as I'm trying to sell it!!

Thanks for any help in advance.

Changing solenoids is a pretty easy task, there's a tutorial somewhere but basically, drain the transmission, pry the sump off with something like a screw driver, unbolt and change solenoid, remove old gasket goo and use new gasket goo til it's pristine, then replace fluid.

The most important part and time consuming part is that when you're removing the sump, pry it off carefully without deforming the metal as much as possible. Once you have it off, give it a clean and make sure it's completely flat/level especially where you've been prying.

Can be done with a oil pan, 10mm socket + wrench, jacks and stands.

i just did it this weekend for exact same reason, ECT 62.

All in all, it took me a 2 or so hours to complete, but I have had to do it before.

I just realized you have a v8, but i'm would guess that it's exactly the same anyways.

Thanks for the reply Matchy.

Just thought i would put for anybody else with this problem, could get aftermarket solenoids for auto, 2 solenoids for $240 i think, or a second hand original for $45 from this guy.

http://planetsoarer.com/shiftkit/shiftkit.htm

Bit cheaper than what i read some other people paid in other threads.

Cheers!

Ok I put the new solenoid in and no error popped up for the test drive. I noticed however it didn't always downshift when planting my foot on the gas, sometimes it did.

Now a few days later the same diagnostic error 62 is popping up again, along with ect error flashing on the dash while driving. Anyone got any other ideas what I can look at?

They said the second hand solenoids they sell are tested... I should give them a call too and see what they say.

Could be a short in the wiring harness. Ringwood Automatics recently found error code 62 which was not caused by Solenoid but rather a short in the wiring harness. Car was sluggish and dropped 2nd gear but now feels like it is on steroids.

I had error 63. Solenoid #2. Replaced it, took about an hour in total. Wanker at Kmart auto wanted $500+ solenoid cost. I Ended up getting solenoid #2 from the internet for $150. Solenoid 1 and 2 came together in one thing. So both were actually replaced.

Old thread, still relevant.
