Hi guys, I've tried searching the forum but just to be sure.

So - V8 Automatic gearbox, symptoms:
* After cold start it works fine for a while but (i think) after going back to first gear doesn't go to second anymore.
* If shifter in "D" it shifts 1-3-4; in "2" it holds the 3rd gear.
* No downshifting when pressing the accelerator; the downshift kicker does nothing.
* O/D Light is flashing
* ECU error signal on dash
*** After pushing it for a while, lots of accelerating and downshifting via the gear lever, at times gearbox has started running perfectly, everything working as supposed to.

Troubleshooting:
a) The fluid in the tranny seems very good, but I'm not sure if the previous owner has used the Toyota T-IV or something else.
b) Ran the diagnostics, and got a 2nd solenoid error.

Questions:
1) I'm planning to change the solenoids and put Toyota T-IV transmission fluid in there. Is this the right thing i'm looking at (

2) Is there something else I should consider before the solenoid change? For whatever reason the car has a cold air intake installed in the place of the air box and the previous owner thought the sluggish acceleration is the fault of the aftermarket intake + MAF sensor troubles (My guess is they never figured out that the revs jump from 1st gear redline to 2500 rpm). Could it be ECU related? Something else?

Hope you guys got some ideas. :-)

ECU controls the auto, so it's possibly an ecu fault. I always recommend fitting a known good, recapped ecu before spending money on chasing ghosts. If the ecu hasn't been recapped the car won't be running properly, even if it isn't causing the auto problem.
(Disclaimer: I recap, repair & sell ecus, so I would advise this first)

Solved!
New shift solenoids + new type IV fluid and works like a charm.
