Don't know about the TT but with the V8 if you have the box out, definately do the rear main seal. Only costs about $50 from Toyota. Might want to do the gearbox seals if they fit from the outside. The rear one tends to leak on the gearbox mount and softens it up over time.

how hard is it to do the rear main seal? my gearbox is being built by mv auto's now but hadn't thought of doing the main seal. i took out the gearbox myself and is it much work to do or just really fiddly, remembering the car is on car stands not on a hoist?
Remove the flex plate, pull out the old seal with a flat blade screwdriver, tap in new seal, replace flex plate. Doesn't take long at all, and worth it just to know that you've done it.
