Hey guys
Whats the going rate for a shift kit for the auto box of the JZZ30 soarer. I've been told it could shave upto 0.5 second off 1/4 mile times, is this true...
Did anybody try the mod? Are the results comparable to the shift kit? And is a safe thing to do? Don't want my gearbox to blow up after a couple of thousand k's

According to LSOC it is not that easy. Just to quote one of the threads:
...as you can't just pack it with washers or the like, as the valve body is not machined finished, and is slightly coned in shape. It took us some time to get the correct diameter on Bedlam's lathe, so the shim fits like a glove, and believe it or not, we used equipment that is used, and calibrated, to manufacture F1 bearings shells to measure, and machine the shims

If you get a stage 2 MV shift kit it comes with copper pipe cut to length. It wont make much difference if the fit is flush or not. At the end of the day, with shims all you're doing is tentioning the spring so there's less dampening of the shift shock.

I know I have been saying it for a while but I am about to do the mod. BTW the it is not the UK soarer club mod it is from a guy on www.sf.com.
If the MV stage 2 uses a rod then I think I will go that way. I didn't know it did. I was going to use 8mm shims. By shims I just mean a nut that is 8mm wide and sits on top of the accumulator spring. That is how I did it when I was practicing on the spare box.

Pipe 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd accumlators. Will have to wait till get home and have a look at the diagram to tell you what the names are.
Michael was saying that he fiddles with the lockup pressure setting as well. There might be another dial for that somewhere. I'm not sure if this is for lock up rpm change or to give a firmer grip for the lockup clutch.
With the MV 1.5 kit I think the pipe goes in 1st to 2nd and the spring in 2nd to third.

Anyone still got the MV installation instructions? If you do can you scan and email it to me? I can't remember which spring/s I changed now with the stage 1 kit.

stage 1 mv shift kit, you only change the first 2 second spring from the 2 seperate springs to 1 stiffer spring, well thats what my instructions told me...

Spring was pretty stiff compared to the stocker I pulled out. No idea how it goes yet, car was only finished today (ie the single turbo and piping is all done).

Ben, after speaking to Michael yesterday, he advised that the shift kits will only handle about 265rwkw, any more than that and an upgraded box is required with extra clutch plates.

so the options are then
see how you go with the shift kit and how many you can replace before you get to the price of an upgraded box
or
go upgraded box straight up. That is about $2300 isn't it? But I thought that comes with trans cooler and stally so if you already have these then it could be cheaper.

Yep I was told 270rwkw is the max and its due to the surface area of the clutches combined in the standard a340e gearbox. When they upgrade the box, they simply put in more surface area to cope with the uprated power figure.
