Guys, I need some help pretty urgently diagnosing a problem with my car. (Supra with soarer running gear)
In 2nd gear the car does not respond too well to throttle inputs, and between 3-4000rpm it appears that the car bogs down a little.
Now my transmission has died on me before, and consequently all bands and clutches were replaced (raysbestos parts I think) and extra clutch packs added (also a stage 1 shift kit was added).
When it broke, it shuddered, in all gears.
Now it feels as if the engine is freely "slipping".
no shudder, it simply feels like when you lose traction when it is really wet, and the car the only sensory input you have that you are losing traction is the rise in revs (though not so dramatic)
It seems to only be between 3-4k, and in no other gears.
Furthermore, it seems to be holding onto 1st for longer than usual.
Checked the fluid, and it seems fine.
It might be the plugs, as they are due for a change very very soon.
Please help to confirm that is could be my 2nd gear slipping, and please advise what I could do about it, and IF I need a 2nd gear rebuild, where I should go (in melbourne), and what the damage could be.
I was thinking that I should not jump the gun just yet, and just take it in for new plugs, and maybe a tranny flush.
HELP!!

I should mention that I tried taking off in 2nd (PWR on , stick in 2nd) and it didn't seem to slip at all, even when I was starting up a hill.
Maybe the fluid is

Holding 1st gear longer than usual may be due to the shift kit. I have a stage 1 and get that when I stomp on the throttle.

Car bogging down to me sound like the gearbox is holding but there's a flat spot in the engine output.

The shift kit may affect lockup which might give you the "slipping" feeling. I can't remember what mine drove like before the shift kit.

Did you have the stall speed on the converter lifted with the gearbox rebuild?

You could try locking it in 2nd, stand on the brake pedal and hit the gas. If you have a stock converter, engine rpm shouldn't go past the stock stall speed (you'll have to search to find what it is on a supra). If you have slipping, rpm will go higher that stall speed.

Don't do this for too long, the fluid in the box will get very hot.

Oh and in reference to slipping off the line: I put it in 2nd on an inclined rd (for some load) and it pulled away as normal, no slipping.
I will take it to a trans specialist during the week, and let them take it for a drive.

I think that is a good idea. Sounds like a different problem to diagnose over the net :-) Make sure it is someone trust worthy so they don't tell you that you need a new box even if you don't.

Mine did exactly what yours is doing with 250RWKW and 6 months of crazy driving.
After another 3 months of nice driving, nothing crazy! it shat itself. 1st gear became like it was in park, and 2nd and 3rd had no drive what so ever. Because you have aftermarket stuff, maybe its the actuators? I just replaced my box for $300 plus install and swapped all the good stuff over to the new box :-)

get it fixed while you can still drive it.

Yeah, I'm taking it to Kewish on wednesday.
I might even see if I can get it to them tomorrow.
I drove it today for about a km, and it is def not right.
feels extremely sluggish.
it's almost as if it has no line pressure at all.
