I've noticed lately that when I reverse and apply the throttle, that the transmission free-spins until I back off and apply power again. It seems to me as though it would be a worn shim in the diff, but I haven't had much experience with pulling diffs and transmissions apart, so I wouldn't know.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it likely to be a diff or a gearbox problem? And as long as I don't reverse too quickly, is it likely to cause me problems in the future?

My car used to do this when changing from reverse to drive or vice-versa. Slightly overfilling transmission cured it. It could be related to the extra fluid cooler in my case.

mine was doing exactly this as well, usually first thing in the morning. Took it to a auto trans place here in Adelaide and they found 2 screws lying in the bottom of the trans sump! They just loctited them back in, changed the fluid and sent me on my way, been perfect ever since.
