I'm having a problem with my gearbox, mostly when cold.

When i put it into D and accelerate, the car barely moves, revs out and eventually gives a little kick and gets going. I can still only give it partial throttle as when i put my foot down, it just revs out without really moving.

It does it mostly in 1st and 2nd and its worst when the car is cold.

I've checked fluid levels and all seems fine.

Any ideas?

Check your solenoids. It is probably taking off in 3rd. My car did it for a while, it was shift solenoid #1 that was causing it. You could put your foot flat to the floor and it would take off really slowly/low revs, then occasionally drop back to 2nd or 1st without warning if the solenoid all of a sudden worked.
Solenoid 3 (overdrive/lockup) never seems to fail.
I just replaced both of mine in the garage, $90 or so for the pair from MV Automatics.

clutches inside the box are worn
being a cruisy car the box tends change gears by sliping the clutches so it gets a smooth change

Murray did you find out what was wrong? Yesterday i had it in first selected 2nd at 3-4k rpm and it just reved out ! then as i laid off the accelerator it went into second. I applyed probabably 75% throttle and it started reving out again. I can take off in 2nd under very slow acceleration and rev it out and change into third no problems and all other gears seem fine only second is slipping. I have a 1.5stage shift kit done localy and only recently did they enable torque converter lockup.I dont know where i stand in terms of warranty also if the auto "specialist" have modified my valve body and the problem lies there shouldnt they fix on their cost? i presume it would be something to do with trans pressure or somthing to hold the gear crossing fingers im not up for a re-build !
any one else with help would be great.

thanks in advance guys im really upset as i had planns for calder and the GOR cruise this w/e

took it round to neils. After a phone call to MV, it was decided both clutches were gone and would be up for a rebuild. Took the cheaper option and swapped the box out for another 2nd hand one

How much did that cost Murray?
I was in Vardis's car when it happened. He was doing wide open throttle off the line, then let go at 5500rpm, the transmission decided it was a good time to shift into second. No throttle, high revs, it snapped it into 2nd gear. Hasn't been the same since.

Okay i am experiencing the same problem. Everything seem fined before the shift kit and trans cooler went in as well as 2 of the solenoids being changed over. After install it seems that on very cold days that when i put my foot down it is very slow to get going. Is it possible to say that the trans cooler is cooling the fluid to much and not allowing it to go into proper operating temperature? Every other day it seems to work like magic. Any ideas ?
