Although the transmission in my UZZ31 appears to be shifting OK, when the OD is switched on an ECT warning appears on the dash. The speedo has stopped working. Running diagnostics gives codes 63 and 42 - one of which is speed sensor. Seems to me like the sensor is fritzed - but what about no 2 solenoid valve? Wouldn't failure of the valve cause the box to behave strangely? Any clues anyone?

It will be behaving strangely. Currently my gearbox has a falty valve giving an intermittent fault which presents itself by not engaging into first gear. So when I pull up at the lights etc I'm forever driving off in 3rd gear forcing me to select Low manually. Thankfully I managed to get a valve sent to me from Mike at MV Automatics, he also mentioned that when a faulty valve is detected by the ECU the car puts itself into limp mode so you can get home rather than being stranded on the side of the road. Well, thats the case for the TT, not sure about the V8.
I saw somewhere on this site a table listing what gear the gearbox is in in relation to the valves that are energised at the time. Worth a look.
Thanks to Neil Griffiths who advised and supplied a used gearbox speedo sensor, it took me 15 minutes to fix the fault. All working great now - thanks Neil!
