Since my repair(waterpump)I get a shudder thru the car particularly when going up a hill when the auto selects a lower gear. What's wrong? That engine electrical dash warning light seems to be related to the gears - it usually is on first thing but I can make it go away by stopping the car and putting it in P-seems more consistent than a loose /disconnected wire.Any ideas?. Also just for the records when the timing belt does go are the valves etc protected or is it just lucky dip?

Tony, Peter Scott tested the valve/pistons on a spare motor - no problems. That might change at high revs due to overshoot of the valves, but there don't appear to have been any V8's around that have had it happen.
