If i can't get it in, i pump the clutch a few times and then throw it in, but it makes a grinding noise going into the gear. Anyone else have this problem with the R154?
Low fluid? Bad fluid?
How do i check the level and viscosity of the manual gearbox?

I had a similar problem and am using Redline Light Weight Shock Proof gear oil and it goes into Reverse quite easy now. Still not perfect, but a big improvement.
Or you could try Redline MTL, i perfer the above.

Nathan, Put de car up on a hoist, or ramp or whatever they're called in Moose land, and you'll see a large(ish) bolt/plug/socket thingy at the lowest point of the cog box. Ensuring that you have a suitable container to catch the old crappy oil when it comes out, remove said thingy until all the old crap has drained, then re-install the thingy, and check for a thingy approx the same size about 1/2 way up the side of the main cog box housing, remove it, and refill with fresh Redline Light Weight Shock Proof gear oil (available from your nearest Auto Parts store!) till it just starts to dribble out of the filler plug hole thingy, then re-install the bung, and go for a drive. It takes a few kilometers for the fresh oil to take effect, so don't expect instant gratification.
This should make a noticable difference to the way the transmission shifts.

I got a brand new clutch and Redline MTL gear oil and its still a bit "clucky" to get into reverse some times. I find that puting it in first then trying reverse tends to help.

Nathan,Possablities are Weak Master or Slave Cylinder. Weak Pressure Plate. Rev's to high. Trying to engage to quick. Not pressing the pedal in far enough to slow the friction plate down.( Lazy Leg ) Does it grind a little going into 1st ?

Clutch master/slave OK? Enough travel? Reverse is often more sensitive to this than forward gears. The fact that pumping the pedal helps also kinda points to this.

Nathan mine seems to still be like yours aswell.
But im getting a worse problem now. Which is the clutch pedal is losing pressure at high rpms and is either getting stuck in gear or not letting me get into gear because the clutch pedal seems to lose all pressure. After pumping the pedal several times i can get back into gear. That has happened over 2weeks now and has got to the point i cant drive the car now. Its now in the workshop getting a new Master Cylinder.
If this fixes the problem of getting me into reverse ill let you know. Either way im not getting my car back untill it is fixed so ill let you know what ever gets fixed and if it helps me get it into reverse easy aswell.

I had a very Similar problem Nathan with 3rd gear and the Redline Light Weight Shock Proof fixed this problem. Ive never used the MT-90 so cant comment on that.

What is Redline Light Weight Shock proof?
Nathan, It's another type of Redline oil, which people are finding IS superior to the Redline MT-90 when used in Soarer boxes.............I would strongly suggest using it

If the Redline LWSP doesnt fix your problem with 3rd gear, I dunno what will. I was gonna look into getting my Gearbox rebuilt if my problem didnt go away with the Redline LWSP.
