Hey guys,

I'm looking into doing a single turbo conversion looking at 350-400 rwkw.

I'm not keen on keeping the automatic transmission.

Would the R154 be able to handle that power reliably ?

Or should I got the Supra 6 Speed Getrag conversion in my soarer ?

What is the general consensus here ?

And if you know how much Max HP each box can take please also post it.

By modifying the Supra box, tailshaft, diff etc to make it fit into the soarer will that reduce the max power that it can take ?

Or can the R154 be rebuilt to take that power?

Any ideas of costs involved in both setups ?

Thanks heaps guys

R154 handles the power with no problems. I've been pushing close to 400kW for nearly 18 months without and issues. Standard R154, custom built clutch by Jim Berry in Qld.

Definitely stick with the R154, if it fails then build it up tough will still end up being $5k cheaper then doing the supra 6 speed conversion :-)

Yep, Jim rebuilt my stock clutch into a 5 puck Carbotic compound sprung clutch. He's done a few for people on this forum, without any issues.

RaceClutch (07) 3847 9999

You'd have to enquire about current price, as I got mine done ~3 years ago.

Heheh, yes, living dangerously it seems. The car still runs rich even though I've exceeded the fuel pump rating by quite a bit.

Turbo is a GT3582R 1.06 rear housing.
