In the dash (odometer area) part of the 92 soarer I recently bought, it shows *C but no value. The guy i bought it off said that it was something to do with the outside temperature sensor (gee i could have figured that).. Where is this sensor located ? Is it easy to get to so I can test it or replace it. I guess that if the aircon uses the data it gets from this sensor, then it will be trying to do strange heating/cooling.

It doesnt show 0*C (zero), there is just NO numeric value before the *C part.. I just found it odd that this temperature is displayed near the odometer and not in the aircon LCD ?

Any ideas?

The sensor is in the front bar, hanging under the plastic tray that is in front of the radiator. It kind of looks like a small black cylinder. The first thing would be to check if the wiring connecting to the sensor is intact.

The temperature displayed in the aircon panel is what the internal temp is set to. The temp on the dash is outside air temp.

Well, I found the sensor, thanks Adam. I tested it an it seems to be working. About 2.2K ohms at room temp, rising to 5.6k when I put it in the freezer for a while and then it dropped to 1.5k when I warmed it up. I also found about 2 volts on the open plug that the sensor connects to (without the sensor plugged in), so there seems to be excitation supply for the sensor.

It is odd that its actually showing no reading. If it was a broken wire, I'd expect it to show something silly like -30*C, error or something, but its just showing the *C

Looks like I may need to delve further into it. Are there wiring diagrams available so I can actually trace where the 2 sensor wires end up connecting to the instrument cluster ??

Electrical wiring diagrams would also be useful for later.

If anyone knows where I can buy/get/acquire wiring diagrams, it would be greatly appreciate it.

Phil what month of the year was your Soarer produced? The 91 to around mid 92 model Soarers did not come with this function on the dash. The late 92 models and beyond did.

All Soarers have the sensor at the front, as it works directly with the climate control.

Replacing the dash with a later model dash will generate this to display without a number and just show the "C". If it wasn't working then you're right it will show -30 degrees. Also this has been covered a few times on the forum, do a search and see what other people have experienced.

Thanks for the link, David, I will be getting those manuals.

Will, I think its september 1992, as on the green compliance plate (the one that was put on here in australia) it has 30 SER 1992

The model on the original silver plate is E-JZZ30-ACPZZ

It looks like maybe my model of dash may not support displaying the outside temperature :-(
