Use a clip lead from 12v to pull the clutch in. If the belt starts screaming or the engine stall the compressor is seized! Seriously though the clip lead will tell you if the clutch is OK with everything off so no damage can happen and the other end of the clip lead to battery +. A spanner on the compressor will tell you if it's seized. Then if all is OK go looking for fuses blown. The head pressure switches often pack it in too but the most common cause of that fault is a stuffed compressor. The system will try to pull it in once and you may not hear because it will be right after starting. If the compressor does not turn then the A/C light flashes continuously (very annoying!) and the system will not try to run the compressor ever again until after the car has been turned off. If it really is just no power to the clutch then check relays too and then the A/C computer.
In the Soarer the A/C computer fuse also is the cig lighter and lower dash. There may still be another fuse for the clutch.
