I have no gas in my system, and hasn't been any for nearly 18 months now. I found the leak, apparently it is coming from the slip sensor seal. I have been to a few places to get quotes on fixing and re-gassing and have had mixed responses.

Some people say pop a new O ring in their and she'll be right to go, others say that the compressor is now fcuked and I need to buy a new one.

Any ideas guys?

There was a post recently about testing to see if the compressor had seized. If it hasn't then try the O-ring, apparently it's a common problem.

If you have no gas for along time and air happens to get in due to there not being a positive pressure in the system, the air when mixed with the oil breaks the oil down, moisture is a big no no inside a/c systems, ive heard the oil breaks down and forms alcahol and acid, acid wears parts down comp dies and so forth, try the regassing and the o ring replacement. then if/when your compressor dies you need to flush the system, dont no if automotive a/c has burnout dryers but if so chuck one in and check your txv isnt gonna block from metal particles floating in the system.
