I've replaced the air con filters in my Soarer, but there's still a musty smell that comes from the vents that goes away when the air con starts blowing cold air.

I was thinking of taking the fan unit apart and cleaning the crap out of it that gets sucked in from outside. I did once in an old Camry and it was full of mouldy pollen and dust, made a huge difference to the smell.

Anyone dismantled the fan before? I know where it is, but it looks like I might have to move some wires to get to it.

Any suggestions?

Could be just mould in your vents. I think you can take it to an autoelectrican and they can suck Ozone through the vents which kills the mould.

I have a smell of petrol coming through my air conditioner. I changed the main filter but still a faint smell of petrol is coming in when the conditioner is on. Anyone had this problem?

Try spraying some glen20 somewhere then run your air on recylcle with the doors closed.
It may not work but its an idea.

There is a product here called "30 seconds mould" - "spray and walk away" its pretty amazing stuff - I was thinking of spraying some of that in the intake at some stage - mine's not bad but I do get a musty dank smell from it occasionally.

Heh, yeah you should see the TV advert for it.

"I spray then walk away"
"I'm back, I still walk away"
"mould still dying, still, I walk away..."

I think i may have found the problem peter, the air conditioning guy who recharged the system may have left a small tube off the unit or it may have popped off but I am hoping that this is where the fumes came from. all I seem to do is sniff these days :-)

I had this problem. Went to my local car auto place. You put this aerosol in the back, lock it on spray, set air con to full and recirculate. Shut all doors etc then wait for the can to fully discharge. Run the aircon for 5 mins longer and voila!!!
Kills all bacteria and mould in the system and smells nice
Works a treat. Cost me £10

My A/C was a bit smelly too... i just had the system re gassed and a pipe repaired so hopefully no leak..... I also had the drier replaced which is canister near the passenger headlight .... it is full of silica beads and dries the 'inside' of the system...... no more smell!!

hope this helps
