i think r12 is phased out or being phased out in australia, when it gets phased out it becomes less common and costs alot more, 134a is pretty common most fridges at home still use it

Your right James. R12 gas has been phased out and it has been that way for quite sometime now i think. R12 refrigerant gas cannot be cfc free because R12 refrigerant gas is itself a cfc. I agree with Roger that it is just lpg in a can as i know you can use lpg as a replacement with the same air cond oil that r 12 uses as i have done it before in my xf falcon but unless you have a ticket to do air conditioning and a gassing station at your disposal, you wont find anyone that will use lpg as a refrigerant but, yes it is possible

i've heard lpg is an awsome refrigerant and has great heat exchange properties, it used to be used in other parts of the refrig industry but its downside is flamability, yea it could be a new blend refrigerant that has very similar properties to r12, blends are coming out all the time.

Bah, I was doing that last year with Butane, propane, and other funky cans of flammables, it didn't do much at all, a big cloud of flame, and then it was all over (but I cant for the life of me think where the tops of the cans got to....
