Some of you will know that the a/c compressor on my '32 shat itself a while back and I've had a hell of a job finding a s/h one off another '32 because '32's are like hens teeth. I was going to buy a new one but Toyota wanted over $3000+GST (robbing bastards). Well worry no more you fellow '32 owners because Neil came to the rescue once again by suggesting that the only difference between an 'actives' compressor and all the other V8's is the backing plate. So if yours packs a sad don't worry about finding one off a dead '32 just take the back plate off yours and use it on the best one you can get from another V8 then you have plenty of choice. There again you can always buy a new one, it's your choice. Good on ya Neil.

A not so small addition to my thread; you'll need to figure out how to feed the speed sensor some how or the a/c will shutdown as soon as it senses no speed (its there to check on belt slippage).

What about for the TT's?? My a/c compressor makes a lot of noise when it's operating but still works really well. I think the bearings are worn out. Has anybody had there a/c reconditioned, how much did this cost?

Yeah i think it's because the a/c doesn't get much use when the car was in Japan and then us Aussies start using it after it has pretty much been dormant and the bearings wear out quickly from the previous infrequent use.
It just makes the car sound like such a piece of crap with the loud a/c.

I've been advised to run the a/c regularly otherwise the seals dry out and crack. I'm now getting a new one fitted so I've got a spare compressor off a V8 (70K's) that's been re-kitted ready for use if anyone's interested.

The a/c compressor on our ex-Subaru died very suddenly and had been used frequently through winter for demisting. It uttered not a squeak, and one from a wreck was DOA.
