Interestingly the loan car will more than likely be a BMW or a Mercedes depending on what he has available. Tim, I'll be very interested in feedback as I've been using AEM for years. IF you get a chance to speak to Serge, let him know I recommended you.

Will do Brenton...on a side note, how is Serge pronounced? Is it pronounced "Sirj", or "Sir-gay", or something different again?

I'm 95% sure the receptionist said the loan car was free of charge, but she may have said 'It's an extra charge'...I hope it doesn't cost, I'll have to phone them back to confirm.

Hi Tim,

It's pronounced "surge" as in a surge of water. If you call him Sir-gay he's likely to drop a car on you from the hoist!! I don't think he's ever charged me for a loaner, although I always put replace whatever fuel I use when I take one.

Cheers mate.

I know the pronunciation spelling "Sir-gay" is a bit weird, but I've heard of it being pronounced that way a few times, I guess it depends what country it originates from! I'll remember to ask for 'Surge' when I get there.

I took the car in to AEM today (I think it's Ashley getting his car done by Vehicool on Thursday).

The A/c is working well now (measured down to 2 degrees apparently), and I got a minor service done at the same time. Very professional people, although I felt the labour was a bit on the expensive side, but I'm guessing that has to do with the fact that they need/have the extra qualifications to service the high end Euro cars (BMW, Merc etc).

The loan car was a VW Polo (apparently the BMW they were going to give me was already on loan to someone else!). It was fine as a run-about for the day, and no extra charge for the loan car.

All in all, I'm happy with the result!

PM me what you paid... so I know if I'm being ripped off.

Did you get any indication of what the problem was?

The air-con was around the $140ish mark. It was just empty of gas, they did a pressure test, but couldn't find any leaks, so they just re-gassed it.

Brenton, did you get charged for labour on top of the re-gas? I got charged for 1.5 hours labour, I'm just wondering if that is just for the service...does 1.5 hours for a minor service (oil change, safety check etc) sound about right?

Cheers

Well I picked up my car from Vehikool today. Finally I have A/C that gets cold! The guys thermostat was playing up but from what we could tell vent air is coming out somewhere between 7-10 degrees.

I had a pressure test but they couldn't find any leaks and concluded that they must have just not filled it properly to begin with when I had all the previous problem with Adelaide Complete Car Care (name and SHAME!)

Vehikool refilled with my A/C with HyChill gas, which apparently is very similar to SuperChill but HyChill is produced in Australia (go Aussie made!), where SuperChill is produced in Taiwan or China...

AAA+++ customer service at Vehikool. They guys down there are really nice and were more than happy to explain to me anything I wanted in detail about that A/C.

As a bonus I get a free inspection at 4 weeks and another one at 6 months. They do a fair amount of imports and can work on Soarer's and Celciors with no trouble at all.

I'd say put this in the mechanics guide Pen. For a while there I didn't think it was possible to find a decent honest A/C mechanic.

Good to hear things worked out for you! It looks like mine has to go back next Tuesday, as there's obviously a leak somewhere, as after 2 days, it's no longer cold, which means there not enough gas to even allow the compressor to kick in!

Ashley, did they replace the o-rings, or just re-gas the system? Also, what sort of price did they charge?

Tim, sorry to hear it isn't working again, but I've got full confidence that Serge will sort it out for you. He's not the type to do shoddy work or stuff people around. Keep me posted.

I had a brand new compressor put in and the o-rings into the firewall replaced about a year ago. I've always tried to use the A/C at least weekly (it's great in winter for defogging the windscreen) to keep things wet.

They charged $159... but you get the check ups. That was pressure test, regas, die etc. Hopefully I don't get any leaks but if I do they should at least be able to find them. Obviously I was told if I had any problems to call them straight away.

It's also nice when you go to some place and the mechanic there tells you how nice your car is and wants you to take him for a spin.

I spoke to a mechanic mate of mine and he reckons the super chill gas is no good as it lets off a smell in the car. I dont know how strong it is or if its really noticeable but he said basically they regas it with LPG which is the reason why its so cold but also the reason why it smells. He offered to do it for me for $50 but said i was better off paying a bit more and getting the non super chill gas.

Can anyone confirm what he was saying or should i just do the LPG?

Cheers

Don't know if it's LPG. I know HyChill, the stuff in my car, doesn't let of a smell.

The gas should be sealed into the system, how can it smell unless it is leaking?
