Hey guys, i have been looking around to get my a/c regased here in Adl, as the last few days have been warming up a bit. Does anyone know any good places in Adl to get it regased, i have rang around a few places and all seem to be around $130-150.... is this cheap or expensive. I spoke to one guy who said they use this gas called Super Chill which is just a newer form of R12...... Anyone used this stuff??????

I paid $140 to get mine done here in Perth. I know there's probably places you can get it done $20-30 cheaper, but it was while it was in the workshop for a service etc, so was convenient. Just have a shop around, see what you can find!

Hi Drew, Adelaide Exclusive Mechanical on Magill Rd in Trinity Gardens are good. They charge about $130. Speak to Serge. I'm about to get mine done there too.

$120 in Perth, Autocool East Perth, for any perth peeps wanting to get there aircon re-gassed.. Mine had the dreaded HR12 in the system. The guys at Autocool replaced it with R134A, and she's super cold! HR12 just couldn't keep up on hot days, absolutely hopeless!

Pete, Very happy with the result. Adelaide Exclusive are my regular mechanic. He's very experienced and doesn't charge like a wounded bull.

Good stuff - I only picked my car up on Friday and the previous owner had the A/C done with Super Chill. Lovely icy cold A/C and it takes about 60 seconds to cool the car down. Brenton - I used to live in SA, and AEM were just up from where I lived (Amherst Ave - first street on the left after Portrush Rd as you're heading towards Magill). I used to see a green Soarer there all the time when I was staggering up Magill Rd towards McDonalds to get hangover food. Yours? |

I'm in Adelaide and my A/C seems to be on the fritz, I'm looking at getting my A/C re-gassed too. Do we need a special type of gas, or would AEM have the necessary A/C gas? Which company uses the 'super-chill' gas? Also, Brenton, do you know the rough hourly labour rates at AEM? Can AEM fix the issue if it's not a simple re-gas, or would it need to go somewhere that deals with electrics and A/C? There's a few things I'd like done to my Soarer, but some mechanics just refuse to touch them! Cheers Tim

Tim, they've got all they need there to repair the A/C if it's more than just a regas. Don't know what their hourly rates are. Give them a call and speak to Serge (he's the owner). I don't think they use the Super Chill stuff but you could ask them.

Maybe I did see yours at the Maccas during a hangover run! As if I'd remember though, all I was concentrating on was $50 worth of sausage and egg muffins and hashbrowns to take home and scoff while vegetating on the couch with some motorsport on TV... Man I miss Adelaide. AEM let my housemate and I take a sweet M3 for a scream up to Norton Summit.. one of the best Saturday afternoons in my life.

Do they offer loan cars at all? If I dropped the car off, I'd have no way of getting back again! I need to call him, but work always seems to get in the way!

I can say DONT go to Complete Car Care, Marion Rd. I got them to replace my compressor and re-gas the system and had to take it back 2 times... and it's still not right. When AEM are back from holidays (14th January) I'm going to take my car there. At the moment the AC is cool but not cold. Feels to me like there is too much or not enough gas in the system. Oh and YES, I've since replaced the A/C filters and the cold air filter was done at the same time as the compressor.

I don't know. The one we took for a burn was for sale. I don't know if he knew we were just joyriders or not, but hey - I had fun! I know the feeling RE work getting in the way of repairs/servicing on your car. That's the number one reason why mechanics are so busy on Saturdays. |

I had my air-con regassed by Sport & Luxury Cars and now the air con is so cold!! Today its 40C+ in Vic and i had to set the air con to 26C, as anything under 26C is too cold for me.

Then there is defiantly something wrong with mine. I put mine on 22.5 and it struggles to keep me cool. The cooler it is outside the better it works. On a 40C day like yesterday there is hardly any point having it on. So where in adelaide did they use this Super Chill gas?

Well, I'm booked in with Adelaide Exclusive Mechanical next Tuesday. They said it would be about $140 but I didn't speak to Serge, just the lovely receptionist . They also said they had a loan car at no extra charge! I called a few other places and they quoted around the $160 mark, because apparently the V8 O-rings can be difficult to get to...also no loan car at other places.

I'm booked in at Vehikool in Pooraka for Thursday. I doubt they will be cheap but I've heard from a few friends that they are really good. Wish I was getting a loan car... Damn that sucks.

Tim, the front O ring is actually easy-ish to get to from under the front. A guy did mine in the driveway without having to jack the car up either. But it might be a different O ring they are referring to. I will be very interested in your report when you get the car back. Ashley, tell us about yours too, though Pooraka is a bit further than I want to go.

Ashley, Vehikool was the one that said it would cost around the $160 mark as apparently the o-rings were difficult to get to, they also said I would have had to take it to them at Pooraka, hence I went with AEM, a lot closer to my work, and the loan car solves a lot of problems!

Hmm well we will see how they go Thursday next week. They have done work on my Father in-laws FWD and although it wasn't cheap it hasn't had a problem since. I was going to take it to AEM, but as peter says "it's further than I want to travel" although that loan car is mighty enticing! The only other reason I'm taking it there is I work in Pooraka, so it's just down the road. :-D I'll post up how I go. I doubt there is anything wrong with my compressor, as it was replaced 12 months ago. Hoping it's just a leaky o-ring or gasket somewhere... or even the TX Valve... I could handle that.
