Hi Guys
Not been around for awhile, my baby has been parked up for a couple of months, now i am getting her ready to go back on the road. But she has developed a bad problem, i am thinking its the heater core since under the passenger seat filled up with water but water was also pumping out of the intercooler, does this happen when the heater core goes?

Oh one other thing my air con has been dead since i bought the car, think it happened when a new rad was fitted. The fan never turned on for it, but now it does , am really confused

Hey I have the same problem and was wondering if a way to fix it would be to put radiator stop leak stuff through the cooling system? would that fix it even temporarily? Just an idea? Anyone??

Water from the intercooler? Not sure what you mean.
Water in the passengers footwell could also be from rain if the plastic liner inside the door isn't sealing properly.
Personally I wouldn't bother with any of the radiator fix solutions. It's hit and miss as to whether it will work, but it does add junk to the cooling system.
If you are sure it's the matrix, you have 2 options. Bypass the heater completely, or pull the dash out to get at it. Big job.
This problem underlines the importance of having the correct coolant in the system, and replacing it regularly every 2-3 years.

Hi Guys
I was working on the inside of the car when i noticed a warning light come up, so i turned off the car and was about to pop the hood when i noticed a lot of water coming out of the intecooler, and the same time water started filling under the passenger seat, i am guessing at this stage that it is the heater matrix, just because it would explain how the water got inside, i am guessing that it would come out the intercooler as well, put i could be miles off the mark, i don't think it was a leak since it has never leaked before. I am gong to do a lot of stuff to the inside so i don't really mind taking it all apart, just hope that that is the problem.

Leo, is it (1) yucky brown water that smells of coolant, (2) yucky brown water that smells stale/stagnant (like a bad fart) or is it (3) pure coolant?
option 1 generally equalls bad times for you!
option 2 is when your aircon isn't draining properly and backing up in the system, then finding the point of least resistance and draining back into the footwell instead of onto the road, happened to my mum's commodore.
option 3, well, hope you have your pennies saved.
Do you have a 'cooler spray system set up, that you know of? Is it a water-to-air cooler that could be leaking? Not sure on turbo construction, or if soarer turbos are water cooled, but could it be leaking and blowing through into the intercooler?

Leo, this is all a bit confusing.
1) If the coolant is blue, then the leak should be blue too, as the heater uses the same coolant.
2) As mentioned, the turbo intercooler is a closed system which just handles air, so no way that coolant gets into it, let alone out of it again.
A common cause for the footwells getting wet, is the plastic lining inside the doors isn't sealing properly. Rain runs down into the doors and then into the car.
Water could drip from the A/C heat exchanger at the front of the car, simply condensation from air humidity.

So is it possible since the car was standing for a long time, that water could condensate in the air system? We had some pretty wild weather where i live lots of rain snow etc really windy, so it could be a possibility that water got in from a leak.

check the water drain on the bottom of the heater/ a/c system which drains in side the engine bay .. either way, you could do a heaterr matrix change in a day, but yeah.. i can do a heater core change for $400 as long as you have a new core to put straight in, problem is you have to de-gas your a/c system as you have to un bolt the pipes of the fire wall. so it will need to be re gassed, but it is a simple job cheers..
Yeah when i fixed mine a few months back, as it leaked it looked like it was running down the back to the floor. Spent about 400 all up for the core to be replaced along with some new hoses for the engine bay, from the block and from the tap. Then a lot of my time was put in.... And i still have to go get the AC re-gassed, and work out what plug i missed which is stopping the centre front vents and the demisters to work. Hahha, still dont know weather i would wanna pay someone to fix it or do it again myself. 2nd time around would only take half the time, i ended up on the emails to Neil Griffiths wondering where the damn bolt holes all were.
