Hi Guys,

After going through all the info on this site (and everywhere else on the net) I could not find a good walkthrough for this conversion from start to finish. I have just completed it and have documented the process.... so here it is for all to enjoy! :-)
It is quite simple really, below is the parts list.

Tools:
1. Soldering Iron
2. Solder
3. Wire Cutters / Strippers
4. 10mm Spanner
5. Phillips Head Screwdriver

Parts:
1. Soarer TT Climate Control Module
2. Loom for Climate Control with 2cm before its cut (you will need to extend it about 30cm, so if you can get one with that much left on it all good, I had to extend it.)
3. Enough spare wire to extend all the cables 30cm

Procedure:
1.Disconnect your battery (dont want a short now do we).
2. Extend the loom on the Soarer TT Climate Control Unit by 30cm.
3.You will need to remove the EMV (out of scope for this document, plenty of info on how to do this elsewhere, use the search).
4.Once the EMV is out of the way SELL IT! Then you will need to remove the Climate Control ECU. The reason you are doing this is that the Soarer TT Climiate Control Module has the Climate Control ECU built-in. The EMV does not. It is located under the dash (brown\yellow box) next to the Mirror Control Unit.
5.With the Climate Control ECU out of the way you should have three Orange connectors dangling down. If you feel up to the top of this loom you will find it is secured by one of those spread clips. Either pop it out (if you can) or cut if off. This will give you enough slack to be able to solder in comfort. You will need to solder these connections to the Soarer TT Climate Control Loom. Details on how to do this is below.



EMV CONNECTIONS
There are three orange connectors. We will call them connector A, Connector B and Connector C.

Connector A is laid out like this:
1,2,3,4,5 CLIP 6,7,8,9,10
11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23

1 = Red
2 = Black \ Red
3 = Yellow
4 = Blue \ White
5 = Pink \ Black
6 = Blue
7 = Purple
8 = Green
9 = Green \ Red
10 = Red \ Blue
11 = White \ Black
12 = Blue \ Red
13 = White
14 = Yellow \ Black
15 = Pink \ Blue
16 = Not Used
17 = Not Used
18 = Not Used
19 = Black \ Yellow
20 = Not Used
21 = Green \ Black
22 = Not Used
23 = Blue \ Red

Connector B is laid out like this:

1,2,3,4,5,6 CLIP 7,8,9,10,11
12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25

1 = White \ Green
2 = Blue
3 = Green
4 = Green \ Red
5 = Grey
6 = Purple
7 = Black

SOARER TT CLIMATE CONTROL CONNECTIONS
There are another three connectors (mine were white). We will call them Connector D, Connector E and Connector F.

Connector D is laid out like this:
1,2 CLIP 3,4
5,6,7,8,9,10,11

1 = Green \ Black
2 = Not Used
3 = Black \ Yellow
4 = Blue \ Red
5 = Not Used
6 = Not Used
7 = Yellow
8 = Black \ Red
9 = Blue \ White
10 = Not Used
11 = Not Used

Connector E is laid out like this:
1,2,3,4,5,6 CLIP 7,8,9,10,11
12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25

1 =Black
2 =Blue \ Yellow
3 =Green \ Yellow
4 =Purple \ White
5 =Blue \ Black
6 =Pink \ Black

Connect them together like this (Dont worry when you finish if there are some cables that dont get connected these are extra wires for the EMV and such, tape them up):

6. Once this has been completed tidy up your loom (tape it up so its all together) and feed the cabling up into the centre console.
7.Connect the connections to the Soarer TT Climate Control Module.
8.Mount the Soarer TT Climate Control Module.
9.Reconnect your battery.
10. Done!

Nice write up Richard.

Which year does this apply to? There are variances in the climate modules but the plugs stay the same.

I got a later model climate unit and put it into my 93 and I lost fan speed.

Hi Matt,

I'm pretty sure this would be 91 - 96... Hell my climate control unit was from the united states and I didn't know what year model the car was ( buttons are backwards, its actually better because now the AC button isn't so far away :-) ). The pins were backwards too, but the colour codes were the same.

As far as your fan speed goes, Im sure if you look through the wiring diagrams you should be able to get that working.

Should probably put a disclaimer to do at your own risk as your dealing with electronic components. If your not competent give it to a pro :-)

I will have to dig out my info on this but I think there are three variations on the climate module, 91-93, 94-96, 97 on.

I might be slightly out on those dates but I am sure there were more than two variations.

You would have to wonder why they altered the pinout but left the connectors the same....

Looking at the wiring for the 96 on it's quite different from the earlier models. There also appears to be some differences at the actual blower assembly which would indicate that none of the bits are completely interchangable.

Great tutorial!! i have a problem though with connecting E13-> B16 and E21-> B20 and E24-> C12 i dont seem to have any wires for those on the non emv plugs. I have installed everything into car and tt unit lights up but has nothing on the screen and beeps when pressing any of the buttons.

Hi Daniel,

I was just wondering if you sorted out your climate control? The reason I ask is I'm about to attempt the same conversion and it would appear that my non emv connector E does not have pins 19 and 24 attached. I was thinking of perhaps inserting a crimp of some description or soldering a wire directly to the pin on the back of the TT unit where the connection does not exist.

Oh and thanks to Richard for the original tutorial.

If you look at the Jeff Harper wiring diagrams you will see that there is a wire for both speed pulse and telephone mute - neither of which I connected (the contacts were missing anyway )

Hi Luke,

Thanks for the advice, unfortunatly I do not have access to the Jeff Harper wiring diagrams. I guess they're part of the "Soarer Bible" which has just about everything! I should buy a copy.

My concern is that Richard, Daniel and myself have connectors with different missing wires and the wiring loom I have sourced has come from a different Soarer than the climate control unit.

I notice that Non EMV plug E 19 according to Richard's tute is unused but I still have E 24 pink wire missing. Are these two the "speed pulse" and the "telephone mute"?

Thanks mate, I will post tutorial for anyone who wishes convert their EMV to a new DVD touch screen and Climate control unit.

Simon, you have access to the wiring diagrams if you buy them ;-)

Remember that NOT all cars have telephone - so the Tel Mute wire is of use and may or may not be available depending on whether the loom plug came from a car with telephone or not. The speed pulse wire was not connected on the conversion I did because again, the wire was not on the TT loom plugs.
So E19 and E24 were not required on the vehicle I did.

I will add however, the above tutorial seems to miss off the De-fogger (pin 18 connector I on JF diagrams - connector A above)for the rear screen and the button illuminations too as my wiring differs.

Its easy to do tutorials when others provide the answers ;-)

Hey guys sorry bout the long delay in replying!! As it was such a hassle to be under the dash for so long i have just left it as is lol but having no aircon is starting to take it toll up here in Far North Queensland!! I have a feeling it may be the actual TT control may be faulty.. The screen lights up green and when the buttons are pressed they beep but nothing else happens.. I am moving to Melbs in two weeks were if anyone with knowledge of this conversion could help me out i would be greatly appreciated..
