I think i have figured out why my engine fan is on full all the time. With the orange plugs i put my test light into number 20 on the 23 connector in the picture below which is a green/red or red/green wire and it stops it from running at full all the time.
I put a piece of wire into it and grounded it with the ground wire turns off same as if i ground at a nut etc next to the plugs.
Next step is to put a wire in place and i am thinking of grounding it with the ground wire.

Has anybody have a link to a complete walkthrough That works for a 91emv to 91 tt climate? Can you still get Jeff harpers? Wiring diagrams. Reason being done the first post and no go triple checked and has same prob as others. LCD blank until turn lights on then everything on. :$ I should have kept my first loom but I sold it and can't find the other guide I used

Hi Guys, I know this is an old thread but hopefully since the last post in 2012 there are some more answers. I have just completed the conversion using Richards instructions and the Chris's wiring loom. All works good except for no LCD back light and the fan is on one speed. I can vary it up and down with the fan control but the speed stays the same. What pin number can I check for LCD back light power ? Is it 12v or a reduced voltage ? Any ideas why the fan only has one speed. It looks like a few posters have had the same issue but i don't see a solution amongst the replies that works for me

Nathan , posted in his thread " With the orange plugs i put my test light into number 20 on the 23 connector in the picture below which is a green/red or red/green wire and it stops it from running at full all the time.:"
I put a piece of wire into it and grounded it with the ground wire turns off same as if i ground at a nut etc next to the plugs" which is the fix for the fan speed.

Hi all, well, I replaced the 97 cc unit with a 91 model from a TT and everything works. Seems the later model is not 100% compatible with the earlier model (my car is a 91 model). There is also a youtube clip that shows a guy in America installing different units which shows the later model having the fan speed issue in an earlier emv car. I used the black bodied unit, not the white one and it works OK.

Hi Tom, no, I pulled the unit apart and found 2 of the 3 backlight bulbs had blown. I'll either replace with originals or try the T5 neowedge LED conversion. Cheers!

hi john, i have no backlights, but have not worried about tracking it down. Suspect blown bulbs. In hindsight i should have checked the back lighting on installation, but did not think to do it.
The back lights come from the two large plugs N40 and O15 (from the bible) that plug into EMV unit. N40 pin 16 White/Green goes to A11 pin 2 White/green and O15 pin 2 Green goes to A11 pin 6 Green
