So did anyone figure out what causes this? The Likely cause would be the transmission...

Join the rear heater pipes !

In other words,, delete the heater core from the system..

Not a very easy job to do..but it is achievable.

DO NOT squeeze the hard pipe that comes from the firewall, it is copper and easy to bend out of shape.

My car is now doing this too. With evidence of black foam pieces which would be disintegrated seals.
Why would there be hot water flowing through the heater core when temp set to cold, i thought it would only flow when asked for.
I think cleaning my ac filters (very black and blocked) resulted in a much greater air flow and pressure which blew my perished seals away.

I always thought it was the heat from the turbos, as the turbos are located on the drivers side. Passenger always say they don't get hot, but I sweat like hell. Wouldn't know about V8's though.

Please, more info Neil.
I know you know what your talking about.
I, don't, know.

"Heater flap sealing"

Sealing of air within the dash or sealing of water getting to the dash?
Know what i mean?

My car also has lots of chunks of dull coloured foam coming thru the air vents and also emits warm air when the dial is set to Max cold.

Adding to my mysery, the aircon is weak and hardly any cold air comes thru at all.
