My car gets all warm inside, particulary on the drivers side near the steering column and underneath. Also VERY hot around the gearbox.
What could it be?
When I turn the A/C on, I cant feel the heat as much.
But if i cruise at night with A/C off and ventilation set to come from outside(fresh air) on "MAX COLD", its too hot and i have to open my windows. Even on a coldish night.

oops just read the post again... doesn't sound like your air con is working that well, but to answer your question...
my v8 gets hot in those areas too, i believe this is pretty normal. You may benefit from changing the transmission fuid tho... you could also put a cooler on the auto box.

make sure all the gromets in the engine bay going to the cabin are all plugged i found i had three missin and that made a significant difference after i plugged all them up with grommets

Could be the little valve on the firewall in the engine bay not shutting off the hot water to the heater core. It's on the passenger side near the top of the firewall.

Yeah thanks guys ...
I dont think it would be related to my A/C, because it happens when the A/C isnt even switched on.
I tend to belive it could be that "valve" Dan is talking about. I shall research it further, cheers Peter.
Edit: I went to check that valve. Found it, had a look at it. I dont know how to tell if its dead or not. I disconnected and tried my climate control system again and no change, everything works exactly the same. So I connected it again. How do I actually check this valve before replacing it?
Also when on "MAX COLD", dont get the impression that it blows HOT air. It doesnt! It just blows warmish air, defiantelly not the same temp as the air outside.
Checked the hoses as well, they "seem" ok, as far as I can see anyway.
Peter I searched for the VSV valce, found some info most of it from people having the opposite issue, no heating. I've got a bit too much heating

Check that you have the finger-like probe mounted inside the front bar. This probe senses outside temp. , without it the A/C doesn't know if it's arthur or martha.

So lets get this straight then.
The air conditioner works. The heater works. The heater pretty much switches off. The car is still hot.
So it isn't the temperature of the air from the vents that is the problem?
Many people have complained of heat from the tunnel, it seems that a common factor is that the heat shields from the cats has been removed either during the compliance process of from fitting an aftermarket exhaust.
Some people also think it is just gearbox heat and that fitting an after market gearbox oil cooler helps.

The air conditioning works The heater works The heater switches off
When I have the switch on "getting air from outside" and the knob on "MAX COLD", I should be receiving air from outside the car through the vents, right? At the same temperature as the air outside?
So if outisde there are 10degrees, I should get fresh 10degree air in my cabin through the vents, right?
Well I dont ... I always get the same warm(not HOT) temperature air through my vents, no matter what the temperature is outside.

I notice in summer that mine is usually a little warmer, but not much, I put it down to residual heat in the system from having been out in the sun, and possibly some heat being picked up by the venting system.
Yours sounds more like the tunnel heat and possibly unblocked grommet holes in the firewall.

Silly question time: Does the flap that seals the system from external air when you press "Recirc" open up when you elect to recieve air from outside? Perhaps this is stuck closed and you're only ever receiving re-circulated air.
Having said this, I don't know how to check the operation other than repeatedly operating the fresh and recirc buttons. Good luck.

I dont think gearbox is related. I got a shift kit and fair sized transmission cooler. Same thing happens to mine, my a/c compressor is screwed so I dont get the benefit of cold air.
