UZZ31 v8 - 1991.

This morning i noticed my air-con screen is blank.
Worked up til last night.
All other screens work except air con, and the bottom right button. Both are white screens.
Air con and heating still works via the knob.

Current issues with my car: maybe someone will put 2 and 2 together and work something out :-)

Alternator whine through speakers.
Maybe have a bad earth somewhere instead of a bad alternator.
Alt testing at 100%.
Slight Lack of power when warm on launch.
Fuel ecu has been bypassed.
Car randomly revs from 1000-2000rpm when in park.
- sometimes it won't do it for a week.
Small power steering fluid leak. 2-3 months, then needs a refil.

Also, I did have the back seat out the other day.
Did you guys have your back seats out recently?

Taking out your back seats could be the reason for all your problems. Put them back in and see if it fixes everything.

Guys I have same issue with blank white air con screen on the emv. I read its caused by the emv ecu caps leaking or need replacing, its a common problem apparently.

There is a computer thing attached to the emv behind the emv. Disconnect it and unscrew it. Go find yourself another one from a wreck and test it. That was what it was for me. I got one from a wreck for like $60 and swapped it over. 3 years later its OK bit in case it happens again I've kept the original one which I can fix up and swap in.

as scott states, the fault is in the computer module attached to the EMV unit

Its an easy fix. Don't know if the module is easily fixed or not? Should be able to find a working one for $100 or less.

Geday,

Old post, but the problem is 98% guaranteed to be in the piggyback computer behind the EMV screen. What happens is the electrolytic capacitors in it dry out and leak fluid, which sometimes also damages tracks on the circuit boards. It's usually not terminal, but if you don't know what to look for it's best to get a pro to sort it.

The other thing that causes issues with the screens on the EMV is a cactus DSP computer under the passenger side rear seat. This is also a capacitors issue but could also be a yet to be determined issue with the voltage supply to the main IC in the unit. Same advice, if you don't know what to look for get a pro, both are relatively un-enjoyable jobs.
