i have just got a quote from the only place in darwin that i havent already gone to yet.
and it was worth it.
the cheapest quote i got before was around 4k for everything being condenser, compressor and evaporator. (incl. labour)

ive been told by the air con guy all i need is a new evaporator and nothing else. he said my condenser and compressor were fine.
problem is i cant get one anywhere !
toyota cant get me one and small aircon businesses need a crap load of part numbers to narrow it down to like 20.
please if anyone can help me out and let me know if it is even possible to get a new jzz30 evaporator ?!?!

cheers heaps anyone who helps out.

Have a look around this section, some people have been able to fit Hilux evaporators I think it was with just a little minor mod like adding a cushion to make it sit higher or something.

For a Soarer evaporator try contact :

sales@orion-compressors.com.au

Should be around $300-$350. I wonder where they get them from.

Also that 4k you were quoted i a rip off. Let's say if you needed everything done it would be more like

Rebuilt Compressor - $400
New Evaporator - $300
New TXV Valve - $50
Now Condensor - $300
Reciever/Drier - $50 (If no generic fit available)

Install New Components - $400-$700 (Depending how hard evap is to get to)
System Flush - $150
Regas - $150

Max you should be looking if everything needed to be replaced is about $2000

Nathan, I had to replace my evaporator a few years ago and found that the Prado one was almost identical - correct height and width, just slightly shorter, so when closing the evaporator enclosure I put some padding between the evaporator and the cover. It's worked perfectly ever since. Just be careful what sort of padding you use - don't use material that can soak up moisture as it'll then grow mouldy and stink.
