Hi guys, the heater in my car doesnt work due to the heater tap. I attempted fixing it but some components were just to worn to replace so i left it the way it is But i dont know if i want to fix it or not...why? When i recolored my carpet from grey to black, i took it out and what i found was that there was a trace of dried up coolant leaking from the heater core down the firewall. How hard is it to replace the heater core? Does the whole dash have to come out?

Its not something I've ever had to do, but I do recall a number of threads over the years discussing what a huge hasstle it is to fix. Lots of people seem to bypass the core until they have lots of spare time to fix it properly.

Is the problem actually the tap? Generally it's the VSV which controls the opening and closing of the tap - it's just an air solenoid which supplies vacuum to the heater valve to open and close it. Cheapest replacement is to find some emissions equipped car at the wreckers, they have loads of these valves.

Um. If its the heater core I'd give up.
When we stripped back the chaser halfcut it was burried deep and it wasn't exactly easy to get out. There's plastic all around it and honestly its a massive hassle.. I've hardly ever heard of one leaking before so that's super bad luck
The VSV on mine is gone too, its coming into winter i should really get on to fixing it..
