A few days ago I wasted an hour or so driving around the city trying to get the car looked at by an air conditioning specialist - they had either shut down, moved or I simply couldn't get a car park. So I called Les from a recommendation in another post. As he arrived yesterday, so did a huge wet thunderstorm (which caused our exchange to keep resetting in case you noticed that SC was erratic yesterday afternoon), so we put it off until today.
Les is here now, and I just thought I would share with you that he tells me he has replaced a Soarer A/C evaporator WITHOUT removing the dash. Hour and a half apparently.

45 minutes later the job is done and in my car park too. Straight away he could see that the O rings had been leaking by the oily coating on the passenger side of the radiator. Replaced both O rings with high pressure variants, regassed with oil and dye - instant cool.
Other comments he made is that HR-12 and HE-12 are apparently the same gas, different names to avoid a trade mark dispute.
Les also said he has done a few Soarers, and his brother who works the north side of the city has done a lot of them and they have never yet seen a faulty TX valve. That doesn't mean that it doesn't happen, just be careful you aren't getting ripped if your specialist says that it needs replacing.

Hey Peter. I'll have to give that a call tomorrow. My AC decided to blow nothing but hot air today (first 36 degree day in AGES) and the green AC light flashes at me until I turn it off then on again after the car has been sitting for a while.
Looks like AMA did the gas in 2003 according to a smeared sticker under my bonnet. I suppose it's got a leak. Was working great earlier in the year. Just my luck. Hopefully I can get him there tomorrow. I love my AC.
